Roscoe Club

That is ‘the man!’, Joe Sample, on keys. Sounding just like The MJQ that I remember!
It makes me want listen to some Herbie Hancock. Maybe my favorite keyboard player of all time. Him and Chick Corea. Who both played with Miles Davis. I have to mention one of Miles bass players here. Marcus Miller. I love his unique style.

Oh and I do Johnny. As a matter of fact I hear those inside voices all the time! :help:

Hahaha, I had a T-shirt years ago that stated, "I Hear Voices and They Don't Like You." My wife hated that shirt and that is probably why I haven't seen in quite some time.

I’m right there with you Crash (except I lean more toward the P and P/J basses; although I do have a Jazz 4 that I really love). Actually all of my Fenders are 4 bangers. Just not needing the low B these days. Of course I still have my 3005 Signature SKB 5. And it’s not going anywhere.
I think we have become a Planetshakers cover band at church so occasionally I have a need for a 5 string. I thought about a PJ Classic, I would have to wire it so I can isolate the P pickup with a push/pull switch. Other than that, if I had a Century Standard 5 build I would go with the P pickup with a 20 Fret neck, 19mm spacing and probably 34" scale.

This is my Classic Custom, I installed the J-Tone preamp and replaced the Aguilar pickups with (the now defunct) Honey Badger Vintage Humbuckers. And with all of that, it is serial number 0000. I have had so many offers form people wanting to buy this bass, it has been unreal. If something happens to me, Mrs. Crash has instructions to return this bass back to Keith Roscoe with a no sale agreement so he can hang it up in the Demo room for people to see and try.

Sweet! Beautiful bass.

Sadly I couldn't afford the copy so I had to go with the original.:)

I’m with you. I like the look of the classic series, but I’m afraid the neck won’t be like my Century and I love that neck. I’ve debated having Keith make me a Century Standard 5 with a P in the “sweet spot” and a passive volume and tone control with the usual side input jack. Best of both worlds. 5 string passive P that feels like my Century 5.
Don't worry about the neck. It's one of the best!

Love the looks of that bass!

We opened last Sunday's service with the Planetshaker's tune, Sing It Again. I'll admit that Contemporary Christian music is not my favorite thing to play, but that tune was very fun. I HATE bass solos, but the one in that song was tastefully done and a challenge to learn (the 16th notes up above the 12th fret took me a minute to get and even then, I ended up opting to play it my way and not exactly as recorded). That dude has some groove to him and I think that's missing in a lot of that genre (maybe it's just the songs that are chosen at this particular church, I don't know). I started playing bass in church when I was 12 and have a real love for good, old school, gospel. Different strokes for different folks, and I'm not trying to bash, certainly just my opinion, which isn't worth anything.

Speaking of Sunday's service (unrelated to quoting your post)...

I had planned to take the new-to-me Century 5 JM, but chickened out and took the Century 5 JJ. I found that, at least for now, I can play the JJ much faster and accurately than the JM with its wider 19mm spacing and resulting wider fretboard/nut. I really wish the JM was standard Roscoe spacing. It's not uncomfortable by any stretch, but some of my draw to Roscoe (and even EBMM) was tighter spacing, slimmer fretboard, and narrower nut width. I'm sure that most in this thread will agree there's just something special about the typical Roscoe necks that really set them apart from the rest of the crowd. Anyway, I adjusted the JM in so the string spacing is similar to the JJ, but the fretboard is noticeably wider - not by much, but my left hand feels it for sure.

I did take the JM to a rehearsal last night though where it was a joy to play. I've left the action lower on this one that I normally would, so I could get some funkier, more splatty sounds out of it with just a little digging in. If I had to pick, the only thing I'm not really liking is the highs on the Bart pre. At 10k, that's just way too up there for me and I find myself cutting them almost entirely. Good news is that cut entirely or even just a touch before all the way cut, there's still plenty of high end content for it to not sound like a blanket is over it. I have contemplated how this bass would sound with a simple Aguilar OBP-1 pre as I love that pre in the Century 5 JJ. I leave it set completely flat almost 100% of the time and really like having the active/passive option and passive tone control.

Wow, you have a 1960 Fender J bass?:D

LOL

No. A 2017 Pro Jazz.
But I do kind of have a 57 P-Bass. :)

Josh Hamm can get insane on his bass playing. We dropped the key of Come Right Now from F to D, so I have to play the D on the B string because it doesn't sound like it flows if I go to the D on the A string. I end up playing about 80-85% of what is written then add my playing style to the rest, except for Come Right Now, I can't play it like he does.

57 P, I bet it sounds sweet! When I was in Nashville for work last year I went to Tootsie's and sat in for a song in a friend of a friends band and got to play a 1956 P bass through an Ampeg B-15. It sounded amazing. Right now, my P is a MIM and not the best quality. I bought a Honey Badger Modern P pickup from Greg at Rocket Music, it is supposed to arrive Wednesday so I will get it installed and see what it sounds like. The quality on the MIM P is pretty bad so I would definitely like something better.

I'm sure his 56 is awesome. Mine is actually a RW version. That's why I said I kind of have a 57 P-Bass.:)
It does have the tone though.

Wow, yeah...hadn't heard that one...that's some great playing!

Road bike or mountain bike? They can both be dangerous. I'm a mountain bike guy. We have some great trails in the surrounding Atlanta area.

You ever do the Snake Creek Gap Time Trial near Dalton? It was a fun event!

Here's my only current Roscoe to keep this on topic...
