Roscoe Club

Gard loved the Aggie with Bart’s but I wasn’t ever crazy about the sound of them together. Bummer about the Nord being out of stock. I waited 3 months for mine. Give the Aggie a try with the Bart’s and if you don’t like it just live with it until you can get the Nord. It’s a simple install.

I think I will just have him leave the Aguilar preamp with the Bart’s he’s putting in as I liked the tone roll off better than the Bart preamp tone control. I’m thinking about ordering the Nordstrand preamp wired exactly as I need it from Bestbassgear. I’m not good at wiring but hopefully it wouldn’t be to hard.

@Fred312b Any progress on your new Roscoe neck?
I talked to Keith last week, he said they’re behind and to re-send the email chain to him to remind him. His son does the necks, apparently.

Following their fb, they are making a lot of basses (only half of them for @Bassworship1 :D ), and while I am antsy to get it back, I don’t really need it at the moment (I have several other basses I’m not playing at the moment), Hopefully soon, but I’d rather wait and get what I want.

Anyone doing any gigging out much these days? I know a few are back playing at church but around here for the most part they aren’t using bands at inside venues (eatery’s or bars),

My recording demand has shot up as people are getting in the studios and recording other video/audio content since March, including one of the 2 churches I play at. Outdoor gigs in IL are becoming more common. In the next month, I hope to play in a rock trio at a biker bar, and several outdoor praise worship services, an indoor mass, and a wedding (the rock trio is just for the biker bar).

Lol I think that we’re all living through Shane’s awesome builds. I do miss the excitement of that.
Glad that you have such a good attitude about the wait. I can only imagine how difficult and challenging it must be to run a major bass shop with 2 people.
It is so awesome though that Keith’s son Kyle has taken hold of the passion of building basses. I remember Keith talking about the future of Roscoe Guitars, when Kyle was in grade school, not knowing whether he would have any interest in the family business (when he became of age).
What a legacy! I can tell Keith is very proud of working side by side with his son!:)

I'm playing most weekend nights again. Primarily outdoor shows and private events (weddings, etc).

I had the maiden voyage of my E-C-tuned 5-string fretless, wearing the LaBella black tapes. It was fun - I only played 1 wrong note because I looked at the strings and forgot it was strung E-C. :bag:

Been there and done that!:)
I’ve done it more often using the B as an E string. It usually resulted in my band mates and I having a perplexed look on our faces trying to determine what sounded different. It usually resulted in me playing a 4th to the correct note and sometimes really sounded nice!:D

I actually use the guitar to help with my 5’er bass playing. I think that I could deal with a 6’er as a main bass if tune it to the open E like I tune my guitars, but then I’d lose the low B and have to play a wider neck, which has its own issues.

While I didnt have the added tone control options you have I have to say the Aggie / Roscoe Bart setup was my least favorite of combo's I tried. It cut decent but I found the controls very finicky...either you were full on or not at all. Hope it works for you, its a dream bass of mine my friend

+1
It was my least favorite of the combinations (of Preamp/Pickups.). As I remember, I found it too aggressive for my taste.

A Roscoe 6 is very playable. I wanted and tried to make it my main bass a few times but I just didn’t use the C enough. 5’s seem to hit for me.

I think it depends on the style and songs you will be performing. When I was recording at home and fiddling around with multiple reverbs, etc., the E-C excelled. When I do 'bass covers', playing the melody of pop/R&B songs, the 6 string fretted is boss. When I'm playing praise & worship, the low B is essential, and the C is only rarely useful in my groups (as I found out yesterday). If I'm given an intro to blow on, then I can use the high C, and the tone really sings in that role.

Sorry for the rant, but I guess it's all about context! That, and physical comfort concerns.

In my late 20s, I had carried around so many steel drums from school to school that I couldn't play 6ers or 35" scale instruments for a 5-year period (had surgery, etc.) I hope that doesn't happen again after age 50! :nailbiting:
