Personally I think the that the buckeye top looks better with the sofa.
Maybe time for a new sofa? Something in brown …..

Here shows the back side with the Wenge covers. Matches the Wenge neck strip nicely.

What’s you initial impressions. Does the new bubinga sound similar to the buckeye bass with the same preamp and p/u’s?
I’ve never tried the Nordstrand pre because it’s always out of stock when I try to buy it lol. But! The Nordstrand NJ5’s 70’s wound and the Bart NTMB are my current favorite combo but I’m willing to be convinced otherwise.

The Buckeye bass I have has the Bart preamp. This bubinga has Nordstrand. The Buckeye is thicker and not as clear as the new one. They have same pickups but the preamps makes a big tonal difference IMO.
That is one beautiful Koa top! I’ve lusted over that one many times.

Ok. Good move keeping the Bart in the Buckeye Roscoe. I thought that you changed it to the Nordstrand too.
That should give you two great but different sounds to choose from.
The Nord is my favorite but the thick warm sound of the Bart/Bart is great and IMO the Classic Roscoe tone Roscoes are famous for. I’m sure that the Bart/Nord is still in that ball park.

The Buckeye has the Nordtsrand DC pickups but the standard Bart Preamp. You've heard clips of that one and it is very smooth and thick. This Bubinga has the Nordstrand DC and Nordie preamp with tone control and coil taps. It is more Modern and clear. Same pickups but different preamps and the Bubinga has more Wenge than the Buckeye.
Just a personal observation. I’ve tried a lot of preamp/pickup combinations in Roscoes (and other basses) and in most cases I greatly preferred the sound of preamps paired with same manufacturer pickups (Bart/Bart, Aguilar/Aguilar…). It makes sense to me that manufacturers would design both to optimize the other.
The exception to this (IMO) would be the Nordstrand, Demeter, East and Pope preamps. If you look at the list it becomes obvious that the preamps that sound best with other manufacturer pickups don’t manufacturer pickups (with exception of the Nordstrand).
It makes sense that if you manufacturer only preamps you would design a preamp that sounds good with as many different manufacturers pickups as possible. At least that would be the goal.

Other similarities those preamps you mentioned have is they are more open and clear.
That Koa top was really nice. Only thing I didn't like about it was that it was so polite tonally in a mix that it didn't cut through as good as I liked. I talked to the guy I sold it to last week and he's about ready to sale it.
