Rotosound SH77 G string dead

Good evening. I recently bought a set of Rotosounds SH77 and asked my luthier to install them along with the new electrics I bought (CTS potentiometers, oil capacitor, treble bleed, switchcraft jack). I tested them today and noticed that the G string is dead. Can you tell me if it is normal for a G flat string to sound like this, or if it is common to have a factory problem?

SH77's are very bright new, but fade very quickly, in a few days in my experience.

If i were you, i'd remove the G string and reinstall it to make sure it isn't twisted up.

If that doesn't do it, just wait a few days/weeks and I'm sure the other strings will catch up to the G.

You could contact Rotosound and ask for a replacement.

My big bad luck is that I'm going to use them to record some covers later. In the end, I'll have to use the dead G string anyway...

This is my experience with the 77’s as well. Dead G right out of the pack and unbalanced tone until the rest of the set settles down. Kind of the exact opposite of La Bella LTF’s.

If you like the fresh sound of 77’s you might consider trying Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats. Even tone across the set and they retain their brightness longer than the 77’s.
