roundwound tone flatwound feel??

im looking for those kind of strings i love the flat wound feel but the sound is kind of eh. i love the roundwound tone but i cant stand the feel of the strings when im playing does anyone have an idea where i could turn to find the flatwound roundwound tone strings?

Usually called halfrounds or groundwounds.

In my opinion the best the ones are in fact not designed for this goal at all. They are TI Jazz Flats they have a bright and lively sound. Yet they seem to keep this tone as long as flats do, and they don't just feel like flats... they are flats.

I'd definitely stay away from D'Addario halfrounds, just had them on a bass and they aren't that bright and don't feel like flats at all.

Tapewounds might be what you're looking for. They are roundwound strings that have a wrapping of black nylon tape. So they feel like flatwounds, but have a simmilar tone to roundwounds. The tape winding dulls the done a bit, but I think that's the closest you can get to what you're looking for. The TI Jazz flats would be the next closest, since they're the most articulate flats out there. I don't like groundwound/halfwound strings at all, so I can't give any advice there. They all just feel terrible to me :p

I would agree here. Tapewounds are usually a stainless string (bright), with the coating on top.

Have you thought of DR coated strings? They are Hi Beams with a coating on them. Pretty bright and round sounding, but smoother feel.

GHS Pressure wounds. The utilize a flattening of the round windings over a hex core. They sound a lot like brand new flats however they are not as bright. They have a sort of round wound bite with a flat wound like tone for the lows and mids. I am starting to take to them well on my P-Bass, although Chromes are prevailing on my Jazz.

+1 Ken Smith Slick rounds are also very similar to these IMHO

Personally I don't think that TI jazz flats are at all bright. After a month or so they mellow out to a very nice round tone and after a year or so develop a nice thump.

They don't even sound as bright as LaBella 760FL's and certainly not as bright as my new fave Elites flats IME.

I have a set of Chromes on one of my Jazzes that are really bright and zingy after nearly 4 months and a few changes of bass.This is quite a dark sounding bass too.

These would be my choice for a roundwound sound from true flats.

I'll put another vote in for the TI Jazz Rounds. They are about the softest feeling rounds I have ever played, sound great, break in easily and seem to last a long time. Gives a very mellow roundwound tone but feel really soft on the hands Not really a total flatwound feel .. but pretty close.
