Routing help!

Hey guys. I have a Squier Standard Precision V that I would like to modify. I'm considering two of these Wilkinson MM-type 5er pickups.

Obviously, this would require major routing to the body, and to the pickguard.

So, what I'm thinking is to buy two of these pickups, route the body and the pickguard and install these where the old pickups used to be. I should add that I want to keep the bass passive V/V/T.

Thoughts? Methods of doing this on a VERY, VERY tight budget would be helpful.

What kind of tools do you have? You will need a router with a top bearing pattern bit along with the proper templates for the pickups. Then you just take it all apart, mask the top of the bass with tape then put the templates on where you want them. You'll also want to score the finish with an exacto knife around the perimeter of the route to help prevent chipping the finish.

Take shallow passes with the router so that you don't take too much material with each pass. Take it slow and be careful and it's not too hard.

Your success depends on how much time you take to prep the work and remember to measure twice and cut once.
