Double Bass Roy Huskey Jr

Since we don’t have a lot of traffic on the Bluegrass section, i thought I would ask, is there anyone else who is as big a fan of a Roy Husky Jr as I am?? I had recently gone looking for new practice material, and fired up Will the Circle be Unbroken II by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Roy just sounds divine, always in tune, big sound, and tasteful, perfect playing. Some of the songs are somewhat harder than the average Bluegrass song, like Valley Road. Studying his musicianship has improved my playing. Any thoughts?

Roy was a great player and a big influence on myself as well as his father "Junior" Huskey, Roy jr was very nice to me back when I got to be around him,he could push the timing right along,,one of my favorite Bgrass lps he did was "In The Tradition" by Jim and Jesse

There are some nice videos of Roy floating on the internet with John Hartford, the Will the Circle be unbroken video, etc. What little I know about BG (blue grass) technique comes from those videos and Edgar Meyers.

Roy Huskey Jr. was a phenom. Perfect pitch, synesthesia (ability to hear / see notes as colors), and the genes of a legend. The stuff he did was tasteful, toneful, and timeless. Love the stuff he did with Emmylou Harris. His father Junior Huskey was a Nashville A-list player and can be found on numerous recordings - Circle 1, Jimmy Martin, et al.

Can't go wrong using Roy Huskey Jr as a bass mentor. Same as his Dad.
Mine was Bob Moore. And if you are into slapping you just can't top Joe Zinkan.
We also need to thank Superman for his efforts here on TB to make sure these players get the recognition they deserve all these years later.
