Rubber bands or bridge cables?...

What is your preferred string tension?

  • Rubber bands (low tension)

  • Medium tension

  • Bridge cables (high tension)

  • Depends on the string brand/bass

  • Have no preference whatsoever

I used medium Chromes for a long time and liked the tension on them, but I felt that the feel across the strings was not consistent. I know that a medium Chrome E string is not floppy at all, but it's a wet noodle compared to the G string.

I installed the La Bella Jamerson set a couple of weeks ago and I am loving the high tension and how tight the strings feel across each string. These strings have cemented me in to the high tension camp.

Wow, I had almost the exact same experience several years ago. I had been using Chromes and liking them, but then I tried La Bellas (it was the deep talkin' tapewound strings, tho) and realized how uneven the Chromes were. The La Bellas were really great for string to string balance.

I found the Deep Talkin' tapes felt very flexible--not floppy, just a lot of travel for the picking/plucking hand. So much so that it had me not wanting to venture too far from the bridge. I'm experimenting with other strings now, but I'm probably gonna end up back with La Bellas
