Double Bass Rubbing alcohol accident

Recently, I was cleaning my fingerboard with some rubbing alcohol and somehow managed to spill a little on the top of my bass(yikes). Is there any remedy to remove it? It hasn't eaten away any varnish, just left this white residue on it that is hard to remove. Thanks for your suggestions.

I had a similar occurrence years ago with my old Kay. I let the white residue dry and then cleaned it several times with standard furniture polish. On the Kay finish, anyway, it worked like a charm. Good luck!

Visit your luthier.

If your instrument is done in Spirit Varnish or some other Shellac finish based on Alcohol that has been french polished you may have melted it. That is not good. It will need attention beyond your average household skills.

Kays were finished with lacquer which are acetone based finishes. They respond very differently to Alcohol than Alcohol based finishes more typically seen on fine stringed instruments. In that case a good buffing may be all that's needed.

Keep alcohol away from these finishes.

Also on a related note, will getting a fingerboard extension(not a c extension, but having the fingerboard extended to reach higher notes, mine only goes to a b and is somewhat inhibiting) do anything significant to my sound?
