Rumble 100 or head now and get a cab later?

So I haven't been playing bass too long but am going to uni in September,

Before I go I definitely want a new amp, just sold the rumble 15 that came with a pack.

I went to the music store but they only had fender rumble combos, it's the only music store in 50 miles, I like the sound of it but wondering whether it is worth getting that at the end of the month or getting a head at a similar price then a cab next month,

Would rather get at least a head this month but any advice would be helpful

Ps also was looking at ampeg heads pf350 or micro vt, or rumble 200 head or something

Yes, I've read that you can play through a Rumble 200 head and headphones without connecting a speaker cab. You might want to check with the Fender Rumble Club about users who have done this.

Just be aware that separate head and cab cost more than combos for the same result, though they are more flexible to use with other equipment. For example the Rumble 200 combo is $450 for the amp with built--in 15" speaker. The separate head and cab is $300 per piece, totalling $600 for the same amp and speaker as the combo. You can add another 15" cab to either the combo or the separates to get a more powerful, fuller sounding 2x15" rig.

Actually ended up with an ampeg micro vr head, got it on a deal for 250, it got here yesterday and amazed so far, love it

No cab yet just using headphones, don't really need a cab atm since I can use speakers when a friend comes over with his guitar and amp bit am thinking of getting the 210av to match and the vertical orientation would mean it takes less space in student accommodation

I just bought the 210av and I’m thinking about sending it back for the PF112. I also live in tight quarters and I bought the 210av because it takes up less floor space.

As nice as the 210av is it didn’t kick out the bottom like I wanted. I think the lesson I’ve learned is sealed means tight bottom end and ported means DEEP bottom end. The PF112 is mere inches wider and deeper but shorter. Just a thought. Before you buy thr Rumble try an Ampeg. Sweet tone for days.

One more suggestion. Get the cab. NEVER be dependent on someone else for equipment. Always be prepared.

That is duely noted, thanks for the info, is there anything lost from only having the one speaker in the 112 or does the larger size make up for that?

And yes I will be getting a can don't worry, I'm nog gigging or anything it's just for jamming and it's my speakers I would play through anyways but just using the headphone output, obviously not the best solution but works till I get paid next,

Good for you. I'm thinking twice about getting the PF-112. The SVT210av is still narrower, shorter in depth, but taller. Doesn't cost a cent to use up the air above the cabinet!

Will, how come you're not just using one of those Eden 110 cabs for practice?

Hey Charlie, we live in a small place. But we do have a nice shed. I fell into a good deal on the Ampeg PF-350, and haven't owned an Ampeg head/cab for a long time. I thought what the heck, give it a try. It was a good enough deal that I knew I could sell it easily on TB or eBay and make my investment back.

So, wife felt the Edens were kind of big, and the practice amp sits beside my recliner with my bass. It's near a wall where wife has a German cuckoo clock. She was not happy with the space the EX110 was taking. I know, I know, it is a pretty small cab, but she's the boss of the household.

So I wanted a second bass system. Why not build on the Ampeg since I have 2 x GK MB series amps and two Edens? I figured the GK's and Edens would move directly from my man shed to the Subaru hatchback and the Ampeg will be for my personal practice indoors.

That's the short answer!

Ah, I read that as GAS. So a 210 is smaller than a 110?
