Rumble 500 Combo or 100 Combo for Meet n Greet

I recently aquired a used Rumble 100 for Practice.

I also recently acquired a new Rumble 500 Combo with a 2X10 cab for Gigs. I should note right off the bat I'll only be taking the combo not the cab which should be 250-350 watts Not 100% sure which...It's only 500 watts with the additional cab.

I'm going to a meet n greet tonight. Classic rock band. I've spoken to the drummer in the past, nothing came of anything at that point. Last week I responded to his Craigslist ad. We realized who the other was and hit it off. It looks as though he has a band together but they need a Bassist. (haven't asked why, at some point I might, or not)

From what I can gather they are a moderately conservative bunch. I think i've played with one or two before I'll know tonight. Always polite, they don't come off as a bunch of clowns. He gave me 25 songs and I've been going over them the last 2 weeks.

Last night I jokingly asked him if I should Bring a 100 or 500. He replied a 50 would probably do (probably in his home or more likely his garage) and the neighbors will thank me, then said, SERIOUSLY, bring whatever you're most comfortable with.

I know it's a dumb question and I should just do what I want, but what would you do ?

Both amps are new to me. I love the 100 for home practice. Actually think it has a good chance of punching through the band mix. I'm physically able to carry either, but man the thought of walking in with the little rumble and having it pull it's weight is really pulling on me.

Only thing is I've never used it in a band setting. My son's buddy has a 40 in my home and it kicks with them, though they just never seem to even think about turning up. IDK why I've told them to a few times. These young kids are wierd.The guys I'm meeting tonight are not likely to be at idiotic sound levels like the band I'm already in.

The 500 is tempting because I don't even turn it on at the house. I've just recently spent considerable $$$ on it and would like to see how it does. Being it's my first time here there's no way I'm taking two amps with me....or wait that actually is an option...Keep the 500 locked up it'll be safe, walk in with the 100 and only switch if it's not enough.

The only reason I'm guessing at all is because I have two new amps that I haven't used much, and i don't want these guys to figure out what a freak I am until at least 2 or 3 more practices (if it comes to fruition)

What would YOU do ????

So would you chance it with the 100 or just be safe and take the 500 or both (I'd only taking the combo not the cab of course...)

If the volume knob works, take the big one.

If you somehow find yourself in position to use the 100w next time, then you're a lucky bassist. Take the 500 until you know otherwise. I have the Rumble 100 and it won't compete with your average classic rock scene.

It's easy use the 500 if it's too much but impossible to resolve if the 100w is not enough.

I have the 100 and have used it extensively in rehearsals and small gigs. We don’t rehearse super loud (blues trio, drumset and Marshall 12” tube amp) but the only time I felt it was underpowered was outdoor gigs. It’s a beast, and the vintage button gives a little compression and dB boost. I hit that if it’s struggling.

That said, I’d still take the 500. One less thing to worry about, and you can always downsize later (if you hit it off, of course) when you get a better sense of their volume level, and the capabilities of the 100.

Oh man I'd be cursing myself if I took out the phone and took pics....I may have played with one possibly two of these guys once that's it. After a few weeks maybe LOL I feel like that was a test

Thank You for the sound advice guys. Jeez I put this up as half joke but seriously what was I thinking. 200 watts is reasonable/fair for practice with a band, I know that. My GK MB115 is about 200 watts and it works OK at practices. I think right now the Rumble has me a bit spellbound because I like them soo much better than my GK. Had that over 10 years, first amp. Thought about keeping it in case I wanted to leave it at a practice spot. Offered it up for $300 no hits so maybe it's worth more to just keep it.

It's more the speaker area than the extra wattage. Better to have too much than not enough. If the 100 ends up being enough and it works out, you might leave the 100 as your practice rig. But bring the 500 first

If they both fit in the vehicle, take them both. Take your bass / basses in first and feel out the room. Then get the appropriate amp.

Or, just take the 500. You can always turn down, but can't turn up if you need more than the amp can provide.

The other thought I had was to take the amp you're practicing on.

I could never see my Rumble 500 being "too much" but I could see 100 not being enough. Don't get me wrong, the Rumble 100 is a fine amp for its size and can handle something small, however any number of factors could render it underpowered.
Unless I knew for certain it would cut it, I wouldn't chance it.

When it comes to power I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Always better to have too much and not use it, than not enough and not be able to use it. Taking both is excessive, but if the room is available, go for it.

Drummers have no idea how loud things are out front. Ignore him. Guitarists and singers will have very different opinions when the drummer starts thumping.

I have the 500 combo. My band has two guitarists, keyboards and drums and I turn the volume up about 1/4 to 1/2 of the way depending on pedals. Having owned the 100 combo in the past, it’s not as great at keeping up with a drum set but that’s depending on the overall volume everyone will be playing at.

After much debate here I went with the 2X10, there was a few reasons. Later that night I went into a slight manic fit and almost went with the 800 head and and a few cabs. I quickly deleted that post and one or two guys talked me down. ( but I'm still contemplating the 800 in secret) The 15 should give you some good thump and a nice blend !!!! Here's a recording of tonight first time I ever heard myself. Not close to perfect but got it done nice I think. Great Bunch of guys, I see a lot of Tuesday nights here in the future we'll polish up...
