Running Poetry Thread

I know that my poetry offerings of late have been on the darker side of things. I speak not so much of myself, but watching the passing of my father as he gradually succumbs to aggressive liver cancer. He's been an angry man as long as I've know him and even at death's door, cannot let go of his rage. I cannot pretend to understand him. I do my best to support him in his time of need. If he needs to yell at his pillows for being too heavy or rage at the logo on his cell phone, so be it. I watch. I learn. I think about my own mortality and how I want to deal with the time when I leave this world. Surrender is not in his vocabulary.
Life imitates art imitating life... or something.

You do you, not everything you make has to be happy and cheerful.

STALKERLESS VICTIM

Your used q-tips
Have lost their appeal to me
Here’s your trash back

The Moment.

Her face was a poem, inviting me
her hair a cadence as it danced for the breeze
Emotions flowed, a river uncharted
and from my lips words gently departed
closer now, nothing more to say
her smile the bridge, the path, the way
I couldn't imagine more perfect peace
the sweetest memory, without blemish or crease.

Ok...so don't tell anyone at work...they'll thing I'm soft lol.

I USED TO BE A DAD

I used to be a dad
I used to have a home
A family
A life
Dogs
Cats
A garden
Mulch piles
Distinct seasons
I hunted deer and elk
We feasted on those deer and elk
We floated rivers in the wilderness
We climbed glaciers
We went hot springing
We did PTA things
It was heaven
I slept surrounded by love

After the apocalypse
Except for some all too rare visits
From south of the border
I slept alone
Somewhere not my own
For a long, long time

Eventually
Everything disappeared
Eventually
I got used to it
Kinda

After the second apocalypse
I slept alone
In a place kinda my own
For a long, long time

Eventually
I disappeared
Eventually
I found myself on an island of relative peace
An eye of calm
In the maelstrom

During the third apocalypse
I didn't sleep alone
Until tonight

Tonight
As a fourth apocalypse seems nigh
My talisman of calm, that eye
Rushes towards that very maelstrom
From which my fears are springing from
Tonight
I know in my head she won't be near
I know in my heart I still feel fear
Tonight
I sleep alone

Less no less

:roflmao: Hats off! Deep bows! Wizard of a visual pun poem! I actually chortled out loud!

But!

Even though I haven't sight-read in years, and not on a regular basis since high school, I saw an immediate flaw...

While this works (well!) in Treble clef, we're BASS players! No clef was specified, so we assume Bass clef.

D would not be:

---
-o-
---
---
---

^That^ is an F. D would be:

---
---
-o-
---
---

So, naturally, we read the visual as "F pressed deep!"

You'd think this was a silly nitpick, but if I saw it immediately, and had to stop and mentally re-group... someone else will, too. :roflmao:

If you run across someone who reads Baritone, Tenor or Soprano clef, then all bets are off...
