Rush: The complete scores

Check out Bilbo's thread in this Forum. He has done many Rush tunes.

ahh..thanks..don't know how I missed that one. I found others elsewhere also. all are different from one another lol.

thats not a criticism, just an observation. Thankful for these folks who put in that amount of work because I'd never have the patience or the ear to figure Geddy's stuff out on my own.

I have this drummer friend (think George Costanza from Seinfeld) that's obsessed with "Spirits In The Material World". On & on & on about how to count it in, etc.
"Didn't we used to play this?"
"Yeah...but we did it wrong".
Last Christmas, I give him a Stewart Copeland book...this book also has some transcriptions (with Copeland's blessings).
As expected, he immediately looks at that tune & sez "... well, this isn't right". LOL.
So, talking to my drummer cousin (been playing since he was about 3-4)...he sez he sees it all the time. Like "Fool In The Rain" has differing transcriptions. Read/play thru them & it sounds the same.

I used to pick Geddy's lines out from slowing down my Mom's console stereo she had... then, transpose cause it'd be a half step down.

We've come such a long way. Lol!

Honestly, even using the app "Anytune" to slow this stuff down, I just dont have the patience...I love Rush, but I don't like them enough to spend that much time figuring the stuff out. Years/decades ago I did put some effort into it but stopped since I didn't know anyone else interested in playing the stuff.

I also just don't have that great of an ear when it comes to that...It's not terrible, just not great. If its a song that I really, really like I'd put the time and effort into it but learning Rush by ear is a huge commitment in time and not for the faint of heart or fans who aren't 100% dedicated to the band.

If you are just looking for tabs for Rush, I recommend this site: Rush Tablature Project [Home]. I find them to be the most accurate Rush tabs and they also show timing on the tabs which is nice.

I try not to use tab...not snobbery, it just gives me a headache.

I did check out that website...no clue whats going on but it did not play nice with my iMac. Files would download and not open.

It has typos galore & is impossible to use if sight reading...still, glad I have it.
:)
Hey JimK... can you let me know where some of the typos you see are? I personally put this book together and would like to have anything fixed on the next print run. My favorite band of all time and I put my lifeblood into this collection... using the isolated tracks, live footage, etc. to make it the best RUSH source ever on these tunes. :-)

I receive my book the other week. Very disappointed on how the bass lines were written out. I have no issues dealing with repeats, D.S., D.S. al Coda, but trying to flip back pages to find "Bass Riff 1" then flipping forward who knows how many pages to get caught up and then flip back for "Bass Riff 2", sorry this is unacceptable considering the price paid. Continue to write out the music as played so we can follow along with the music.

Jeff...I went back & looked. I was responding to a comment about The Beatles Complete Scores. That Omnibook has a few typos. Sorry about the confusion.
