RUSH - Vapor Trails Remixed (Oct 1st)

Well, it's not like listening to it on CD or vinyl, but I can tell already it's a big improvement. It's still a little much, but I recall now why I was so disappointed when it came out, I really liked the songs but just couldn't listen to it. Now I can, it doesn't hurt.

Nice, just listened to Ghost Rider, one of my favorite Rush songs. I'm definitely going to pick up the remix.
I was debating whether to pick it up but since it's getting such good reviews from people who have gotten it early, I decided to go ahead and order it. Apparently there are some pretty noticeable changes. Considering the sonic mess of the original, there could be almost anything hidden in there.
Yeah it sounds great. I'm really impressed with the remix. Sounds like a completely new album and you can crank it now. 
The Remix sounds a lot "freer" and breathes better. With the original, I cringe every time One Little Victory ends and Ceiling Unlimited just peaks and tops out - ugh. Much better this time!
Lots of nuances - clarity of vocal layers (with some different back track choices), guitar riffs stand out more, drum kit sounds clean, and Ged's bass has that sig tone. Love the clank on Ghost Rider!
They made the right choice to remix it. Yet another great piece of work by the boys and you can really hear it better now.
Time to buy!

Spent some study time with the new version and found it to be much cleaner, dynamic and easy to digest. Having the 2002 version so engrained it was wierd to suddenly hear guitar solos that "weren't there before" not to mention several vocal changes where the harmonic portion originally placed in the back came to the front. There were also several moments of added effects be they echo, flange or what have you. The drums were certainly cleaned up with the snare very present while the rest of the kit retained the big room sound.
This 2013 version appears to be a success, but having listened to the original so many times it almost feels like a new Rush album. Some changes haven't grown on me yet (certain transitions within tracks feels strange or spliced), but most are improvements (like cutting out about 19 layers of Ged's woofy bass tracks).

Finally downloaded the remixed version today and have to agree that it has a much more open sound and is such a joy to listen to. When it came out, I could only listen to a few tracks before I was putting something else in the CD player, having no idea why. I just didn't want to listen to it any longer even though I really, really enjoy most of the tunes on this record. That's all since been explained and now I can turn it up and enjoy it straight through. Thanks RUSH!
Wow! Just checked this out on ITunes! Even on my IPhone there is a huge sonic difference! Can't wait to download (need $$).
On a side note, has anyone A-B'd the original Power Windows against the remastered version? Is there a big difference?

It's a great transformation. Lots of new parts apparent, yet nothing new was recorded. It's pretty telling about how critical the mix is for any recording. I didn't mind the original. It just had a singular flavor to it -like a gallery full of charcoal sketches. This reinterpretation is much more diverse. I like the reduction in vocal doubling very much. The vocal performance sounds much more organic now.
I might even be able to learn some of the bass parts now that I can distinguish the notes from the kick and the root of Alex's power chords.

I wonder how much they had to pay the guy to remix. Even though it's Rush it doesn't sit right w/ me that they put out an inferior product (admittedly) and then fixed it and I'm supposed to buy it twice.
The way they play I think it's a shame they get sucked into the loudness wars at all because it really doesn't do justice to the music. I hate the loudness wars, I'm a big hi-fi head and listen with headphones to great sounding music and some of the new music is just hard to take.

it sounds good, but I agree with what someone else said about how it sounds like a new record.
The original had a super aggressive sound, and this remix kind lost some of that punch, because when VT first came out, I was like, "Whoa, they are crazy hot!" and without some of that distortion, it is not as intense, even when I crank it up.
Even my gf, who is a casual fan by force, was talking about how the remixed is a bit tame and not as rocking.

You want hot. Thats what the s@A live album is for. They do plenty off vapor trails and it sounds awesome.
Yeah I saw it browsing my local Wal-Mart, got excited and promptly bought it. I really like it. Must +1 to the "new album" comment, but IMO its a good thing. It sounds like they re-recorded it, not just remastered it. So much clarity and exposition of subtle nuances that you could never hear before. I really like the bass line to Ceiling Unlimited, which you could barely discern before (kind of applicable to every song).

The 2013 remix is certainly an improvement in the context of more balance and clarity though I'm not keen an every added vocal, guitar part, etc...
What I'd like to ask the group is:
"Which version of Peaceable Kingdom do you prefer? 2002 or 2013?"
I'm going with 2002 - the poor engineering just 'worked' in adding the grrrr to that tune in my view. (Table added 12/05/13)

I like it, but I liked the remixed versions of "One Little Victory" and "Earthshine" that appeared on "Retrospective III" better. Those remixes sound like they started totally from scratch and went for a new sound, while the remixed Vapor Trails album sounds like an improvement on the original.
On the whole, some of the better songwriting in Rush's later chapters. I'm glad they did the work.

I agree that is it totally like a new record, and they should tour behind it and play most of the songs from it!
