Rush vs Triumph vs Yes

I grew up listening to these bands. I saw Rush and Triumph in concert and was floored by both. I sat listening to Chris Squires amazing bass for hours at a time. When I was a DJ in the eighties I played all three over and over and never got tired of them. I refuse to make a choice.

Three good bands. When I was younger, I was a huge Rush fan. These days, I'm more into (old) Yes, so that's how I voted.

Triumph is a great band, but not quite in the class of the other two, IMHO.

Never heard of Triumph, YES doesn't impress me.

Rush because they are enjoyable to listen to, write intelligent riffs and song sections, and demonstrate a skill at all their instruments. It's hard to get bored with them. Bass wise, I think Geddy Lee could play Chris Squire under the table in any genre.... while singing and playing a moog with his foot.

I really don't think you can compare CS to GL. Two different styles of bass playing, Geddy is very technical and Chris very rythmic, the ultimate lead bass hit the pocket too player. The music is different, why compare?

Also put a pick and a Rick in Geddy and Chris's hands and see who wins, not Geddy. I remember a Circus magazine article, remember that old guys, that said Chris used a quarter as a pick.

Yes currently consists of their original bassist, drummer that joined on the fourth album, and hired guns.

Triumph is so irrelevant that I literally only know of them because their guitarist had a column in GP mag in the 80s and I was given a box of those in ~94 by a guitar teacher.

Rush is really the only valid answer here.

I agree that Yes is quite different from Rush/Triumph .... my main instrument is keys ( then bass second , then guitar ) ...
so Yes and ELP where also of interest to us early synth guys .... but they all had singers that sang so damn high that most bands I was in couldn't cover their tunes even though we could play the music ..!

Actually I like all of them. Big Rush fan tho ...here they are sportin' the doublenecks ... SG double and a Ric double ... wonder what tuning Geddy uses on the 6 ?

Ive got nothing but respect for Geddy, but Chris Squire is the champ. No one plays like he does or has the tone. Of course Chris is (mostly) playing a Ric - thru 16 x 10s 8 x 12s and a couple of subwoofers too. He wins because of all that cone area!

Well, Rush and Yes are truly Prog Rock. I always found Triumph were more Power Rock. Rik Emmett was the best guitar player though. G.L. and C.S. both were at the top of their game then but C.S. was probably more experimental. Drums, Neil Peart all the way. Each of these bands held a different draw for me back then.

Triumph and Rush used to be commonly mentioned in the same breath because they were both power trios from Canada featuring high-pitched lead singers. They were also both more melodic and musically talented and inventive than most of the hard rock/heavy metal bands at the time. So I understand having these two in the same conversation.

Comparing Triumph and Yes makes far less sense.

Have long been a big Triumph fan, always surprises me how few folks know of them.

As for the question, more of Rush's music genuinely reaches me than any other performer. I can't explain it better than that.

Since Rush happens to be fans of and influenced BY Yes.... I would say Yes.
