Russian Big Muff vs Bass Big Muff Pi?

You can get on youtube and search both and specify "with bass"(on the russian BM) in the search and atleast hear some samples. It wont be the exact same but it will help you get an idea.

My Opinion.
I have both. I also have both green and black Sovtek/Russian muffs.

For practicality and for a average all around bigmuff type of fuzz > BBM

For big muffy evilness > Russian

No, they are not really that similar actually, I was really hoping they would be but they aren't They are their own selves.

I find the russian WAY more bassy but it's lack of mids can be a challenge to deal with live. So Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the BBM I think it could be a more useful pedal to most.

the bass big muff is carried by the single fact it has a blend switch.. it sucks compared to the USA the LBM the BMWTW The Sovtek green or the black russian.. all the others are better

this entire converstation could have been avoided by saying

I remember someone quoting EHX as saying that it was. Oh well. I have a BBM and like it; definitely a very useful pedal.

That said, I am liking what I hear of the Blackout Musket and Way Huge Swollen Pickle, so they could threaten its spot on my board. I think I may have caught the fuzz bug... :atoz:

I picked up a BBM PI last week, and played with the guys this weekend. I already own a BRM, and got the chance to play them side by side.

It is pretty much as everyone else has said, the BBM is not as wild and woolly as the Black Russian, but it sure keeps the lows in place with the dry setting. To me, the BBM is much more versatile, going from just a touch of fuzz, to as close to Cliff Metallica as I need to get. It really helped with a few songs that we have been working on, where the Black Russian was getting lost in the mix.

I think what kind of tone your after is a major player. If you want all out, completely saturated fuzz, the BRM is an awesome pedal. It's very affordable, easy to find, and built like a tank. Total Cliff Burton tone. My only complaints about mine are that it doesn't have a standard power jack (had to buy a 9-v clip adapter) and if you turn the tone past 12 o'clock you lose nearly all your bass.
The BBM has additional features that allow you to blend in more clean tone, so if you are looking for a way to do that, for the money this is a really good pedal as well. I didn't notice more bass out of the BBM than the BRM, but the tone sweep doesn't have as much tone suck past 12 o'clock.
The BBM isn't too much more expensive than the BRM, but the price on the BBM is pretty much the same everywhere and they are much harder to find used. They also are a pain to find at most MI stores; either because they are in high demand our because the people who order for GC and Sam Ash are tools that hate bass gear.
