Rusty Box power supply

i have renewed interest into buying a Rusty Box, but I have some questions about its power needs.

I'm wondering if anybody on here uses the Rusty Box with only its supplied power supply or if there's have successfully used it with another power supply like something from voodoo labs. I know that the power adapter that comes with it supplies 30v, wondering if maybe using a voltage doubler with an ISO-5, 18v and 12v output, could be used with it.

ok cool. I haven't found a definite answer about this, though I have heard that using different voltages coupled together could cause problems.

for example, using the 12v and 18v outputs on this:

this would produce 30v for the Rusty Box but would the difference in volts be "harmful"?

Yeah, I know they'll answer, I just don't wanna bug them with more emails since I've asked just about everything about the RB and they've always answered :hyper:

i figured I ask on here since there are effect gurus that lurk around....

I believe i've gotten inspiration to try and use a power stip combo by another user on here, so I'll try that first. thanks for the help! :D

Hey there. I'm trying to power a Rusty Box with a Voodoo Lab ISO-5 but I'm having issues. I purchased this voltage doubling (center positive) cable from Voodoo Lab but it doesn't seem to be working:

I've tried the cable with the 18v + 12v, and the 18v + 9v and the LED on the pedal will light up when engage the pedal but will not allow any sound to pass through. The pedal works fine when I use the Rusty Box's supplied power adapter, but I'm trying to have a streamlined board where everything is powered from the Voodoo Lab ISO-5. Any ideas?

No, unfortunately that's not working. The cable is the correct fit for the Rusty Box and the LED will light up when you engage the pedal, but no sound will pass through. When you disengage the pedal, sound passes through once again (assuming it's true bypass).

Here's the description from the Rusty Box site:

"PWR Jack: connect the output plug from the AC Adapter into the PWR jack. For best results we recommend you use the AC Adapter supplied with your Rusty Box. If using an aftermarket AC Adapter, please be sure that it delivers between 24VDC and 40VDC with a minimum current rating of 100mA. The barrel connector plug coming from the AC Adapter must be center positive."

Wow this is really strange. I had a Rusty until recently, and even powered it with a Voodoo Pedal Power Digital which was quieter than the stock supply. However I made my own adapter and used all 4 outputs for a whopping 36V supply.

Apologies for another thread necro... but saw this. I've got a 30v Rusty on it's way to me currently, and just wanted to enquire about your homebrew 4 output adaptor... was that just 4x 9v wired in series? I'm considering wiring it up as a 27v or similar with 3x 9v.
