My first post was not even that mean. You must not have seen my other posts, seeing as how on a rudeness level, that post would have only ranked as a 4 on a 1-10 scale. And the way you keep bringing it up, it's almost like you want to start something. If you would have PM'ed me and said "Hey polly, I didn't think that post was to nice, could you please edit it/make it nicer/delete it?" I would have done so in a heartbeat.

So, get over it. It was a half joke anyway. The fact is, he has been done to death on alot of threads.

dude when you say crap, you should at least think of how others percieve it...you do seem harsh when you say crap like that in other threads as well and I don't take that from people face to face, so why should I online? anyways, if what you said is genuine, than I percieved it wrong due to lack of communication.

w\e...

here's a pic Soto sent me of Ryan...it's pretty cool:DInvalid Link Removed

FiveStringsNME: Innovator for using the word "*******" in a thread and getting away with it? Or just a nuisance?

As for Ryan, I think one of the sole reasons he gets alot of attention is that HE CAN BE HEARD! There are tons of great bass players out there that don't get the popular cred because the mix doesn't do them justice. Remember when Tool hit, and everybody was saying Paul D'Amour was a "great" bass player? Well, he was very upfront in the mix. Non-musicians were saying he was great even based off the Sober riff. So I do think Ryan is good, but his band is only so-so. I thought they had alot of unrealized potential when I heard LD-50, and I still think they are missing the mark with this new one.

I think that Ryan M is a very good player. I like his tone and I like the way he sits in the mix in his band. That having been said I don't like Mudvayne, its just not my thing.
On an unrelated note. Although I understand the sense of not having a bunch of duplicate posts. I'm not sure I understand why it has to be made into an issue to embarass or humiliate the poster. If I see something that seems to have been beaten to death elsewhere in TB I just don't read it.

Is he an innovator? No.

You may now be asking youself, "Why do you say that, you old fart?" (Yes, I've listened to Mudvayne). It's simple, really. An "innovator" is someone who creates an entirely new and often unexpected approach to the instrument that forever changes the way we look at it. Innovators affect everyone who comes after them. The list of great bassists would fill this server, and Martinie's name would be there. The number of bass innovators I can count on one hand.

Let's not be too careless with the way we bandy such strong terms about.

Martini's band, on the other hand, is a nuisance. Then again, I'm an old fart. :D

YMMV
I agree completely... except for the nuisance part :p

But yes, not an innovator, but a great bassist.

FiveStringsNme - Watch your tone. Interpret sarcasm into everything you read...that way, things that actually are insulting won't appear so, and things that aren't will be even funnier.

Polly - Funny, and I agree. You've gotta be careful with how you present things though, because they can easily be misconstrued.

Dave - Funny too. You guys crack me up. See above note.

Thread closed due to lack of time on my part along with Cassanova's absence as of late. I don't much care for the language used in this thread, nor do I approve of the tone of the scuffle contained within. Ryan Martini is a very good bassist IMO, but he's not doing anything new.

That's it.

:D
