Fireball is a flavored whiskey, Angel's Envy is not.
Yeah, yeah bro. I totally get what you're saying. I drink plenty of whisky like you do. I understand the process from start to finish as well.
For me, and I am not attempting to redefine industry standards, finishing whisky in other barrels than charred white oak is like flavoring. It is adding flavors not in the whisky when they finish aging.
It's not my thing, I don't like it, so I lump them in with flavored whisky.
Maybe I should go back and edit that post to say 'You guys are crazy with those whiskys finished in barrels with other flavors'.

My beer guy hooked me up with a small sample bottle of it. I drammed it last night, and was impressed enough to grab a bottle today.
The sweet cherry/stone fruit character really sets it apart.
Pinhook put out a rye last year. I haven't tried it yet, but I have all of their bourbon releases. Good stuff.

I avoided Bulleit for quite a while as it seemed sort of "basic/bland".
Picked up a bottle a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I finally gave it a go.
Help me out here - I was under the impression that "Finishing" was a secondary process. In other words, bourbon undergoes its mandatory aging in a first-use charred oak barrel, then is transferred to a secondary (say, sherry or rum) barrel for another period of time.
That is correct.
It makes Angel's Envy Rye unlike any other I've had.
That Angel's Envy is SUPER delicious. At their tasting room, they serve it with dark chocolate.
And regarding the terminology of "first time use," that's a pretty loose definition as well, right? The example I heard was when Maker's Mark ages their whiskey in a barrel, that's the first time it's been used as a whiskey barrel. They then sell those barrels to New Holland Brewery for their Dragon's Milk beer, and thereupon, the barrels become beer barrels. Then, since said barrels are now beer barrels, when New Holland makes their Beer Barrel Bourbon and ages them in those same barrels, it can still be legally called "bourbon" since it's the first time those beer barrels have been used for bourbon...despite having come from Maker's Mark.
Slight correction: Fireball is not a whiskey. It is technically a liqueur. It is only 60(ish) proof (around 30% abv) so the residual sweetness makes it fall into the cordial category. It is basically no different than Hot Damn or cinnamon schnapps. They work around the whiskey classification on the label by changing the spelling to Whisky, because American liquor laws won’t allow anything this low proof to be labeled Whiskey.
Now, I may be a bit hazy on the Spelling/Label Law info (see: Maker’s Mark) but the technical classification as a cordial/liqueur is correct.

Angel Envy Rye is the most unique rye whiskey I’ve had the pleasure to dram. Glad I finally got a bottle, took me quite sometime to get one.
The Willet 4 will probably be the next bottle I pick up.
The Knob Creek, Redemption, and Woodford ryes are all empty bottles.

Woodford Rye is the shiznit. I’m a bourbon guy and their Double Oak is my dram. But their rye is turning me into a brand loyalist.
