On that note, I wholeheartedly encourage all forum members who are tired of his trolling to hit that little "Report This Post" icon on his prior post and let the moderators remove him. If he had some fact to offer or would even discuss matters, things would be decidely different, but when you have a poster who constantly berates the choices of his fellow posters based on nothing more than his personal disdain for THEIR preference and then blocks anyone who would discuss or debate the matter from replying, it's clear that he is here only to stir up controversy. We don't need that garbage.

Done. :smug:

I could. But the true test is a live band setting. I've tried other amps, i.e. Eden, Genz Benz, at home and they sound great. But put them in a live performance and it's a different story.

The only solution to this problem, is buy amps from a dealer with a return policy. Take it for a spin, gigs, rehearsal, etc, and if you don't like it, take it back and try another.

GC will sometimes do this, if they know you're ready to drop a lot of dough, or they see you buying things all the time. Ask your music store for something in writing, or buy from someone you trust.

Tell 'em Psycho...

And, just so I'm not labeled a "tube snob", I actually like my old GK 800RB a lot.... it reminds me of Tech 21 in the way that it comes the closest to giving me a "tube like" sound without a tube...

...but there is a difference between a replica(nice analog clipping, or a tube pre-amp), and the real thing(100% tube/power and pre),

......which is why Psycho is making someone look like fishbait on here.:D

There will always be challenges to the status quo - it's happened throughout history, and will continue regardless of how people put down others. If Phycho has nothing better to do, let him and his followers chase me around the threads and spend there time slamming me. I won't be bullied.

Back on thread, hop over to basstasters.com and take a preliminary listen to some preamps there. BUT remember that your bass and playing style is different.

Also, take along a friend, and have them run a double blind test for you. Have them swap out the preamps and let your ears decide what's best. Don't go by the labeling.

yea maybe power, but for volume... tube wins, by far. Power doesnt mean a thing without volume

700watt SS < 200watt all Tube

All you have to do to prove is use a meter. Better yet pick up some O-scope software and prove it. Of course voodoo can't be measured, so - skip the O-scope and do some double blind tests. Now to make the test equal add distortion and compression to the solid state test, to match that of the tube amp.

Show me some results from the double blind tests and I'll go along with you.

And lets say you prove me wrong. Well $1500 for a 200W Orange amp will buy a lot more solid state power that would be lighter and sound better. And if you really want tube sound and don't believe emulation sounds as good - just add a tube preamp - still cheaper.

So THAT'S why you won't stop harsssing eveyone here; you're supporting the "staus quo." I see.

Hey, now I've got "followers." That's cool. Collection day is every third Wednesday. If you don't pay your dues, you have to be on Shrimpy's side and throw all your tube junk away because it's hoplessly useless and outdated.

It seems Jim (Shrimpy) is paranoid and thinks that I follow him around. I suppose the fact that I posted in tube treads here for six years before he came around means nothing to him, just like physics and honesty. If he chooses to troll the treads where I post anyway, that's HIS problem. I'm not going to tolerate his crap.

Yeah, and the fact that those tube preamps on there sound so good is just some random coincidence. :hmm:

Also, take along a friend, and have them run a double blind test for you. Have them swap out the preamps and let your ears decide what's best. Don't go by the labeling.

...because everyone is SO label conscious here. I know NONE of my amps were used or pawnshop "junk" before I got them.

All you have to do to prove is use a meter. Better yet pick up some O-scope software and prove it.

...or use a REAL oscillscope and prove it many times over exactly the way I and many others here have done MANY times before. Of course Shrimpy says it can't happen because every time it's posted, he closes his eyes, plugs his ears, and babbles so he won't have to listen to the truth.

I'm just waiting for him to start using excessive ellipses again. His posting spelling and vocabulary have already slipped back to his previous "specplyrz" standard. It won't be long before everyone is "insulting" him again.

Of course voodoo can't be measured, so - skip the O-scope and do some double blind tests. Now to make the test equal add distortion and compression to the solid state test, to match that of the tube amp.

Blah, blah, blah... it's all the same BS we've heard many times before. C'mon James, lets' see some originality.

Show me some results from the double blind tests and I'll

[edit]...ignore them just like eveything else that doesn't agree with me.[/edit]

And lets say you prove me wrong.

Which time? There are so many.

Well $1500 for a 200W Orange amp will buy a lot more solid state power that would be lighter and sound better

... if you're a tone-deaf troll who hates tubes anyway.

And if you really want tube sound and don't believe emulation sounds as good - just add a tube preamp - still cheaper

...because having a tin ear and no taste, tact, or honesty is always the most economical solution to ANY problem, right?.

Why do you believe that tube preamps and power amps should have the same distortion behavior? What is this behavior?

You're making us tube-haters look bad. ;)

Sorry - don't mean to make tube-haters look bad. <insert angel smiley>

And of course you're right - Preamps are Class-A and the power amp Class-AB so they distort and clip different. BUT the distortion/warmth/sound that people seek comes from the preamp. It does the squashing. Class-AB power stages clip (mostly) the same no matter what type of power amp it is. (someone should take a scope and show it. I have a scope and software but no tube amp anymore)

Oh - and I've heard some voodoo argument about a output transformer part of the sound ... you can add a transformer to a SS if you want, no manufacturer seems to want to. Wonder why?
