Could anyone tell me what years, the Sterling US SUB's were made? I just traded for one,and the serial number

has been sanded off the back of head stock. I removed the neck to find the date, and the date only showed APR 2,and a hole was drilled in the rest of the date? Thanks!

I regret to say that I have to relinquish my membership in this fine club. I recently sold mine back to the lady I bought it from. It was just as well, it wasn’t getting enough playing time anyway due to the fact that I couldn’t get comfortable with the painted neck, all its other stellar qualities notwithstanding.

I guess she was glad to get it back and it was nice of you to let it go.

I figured it must be the oils/acid in everyone's hand sweat that causes this. We all sweat differently. Plus this bass came from the California coastline, lots of salt air. Don't know if that affected it or not.

Very likely. Part of the paint near the bottom edge of the fretboard had come off when I bought it. Pretty obvious what caused it too, the seller I bought it from used the bass for Rocksmith and very likely ate potato chips while playing...there were some crumbs in the gig bag and the neck smelled of potato chips. Took me a while to remove that grease and smell. ugh....
I was waiting for more of the paint to peel off but it hasn't - I've decided to leave it as is, have that slight worn look.

You could always sand the paint off, back of neck, which I did on one of my SUB's. I have a Sterling US SUB,that previous owner sanded, and did a nice job making it a nice satin neck, and nice wood grain, under all the black paint. Takes some time and patience, using different gauge of sand paper.

Great job on that!
Yes, I'll probably sand it when more of the paint is gone, it's not quite that bad yet aesthetically speaking and the feel of the painted neck hasn't bothered me enough....yet. :)
