S.U.B. Club

I’ve seen that finish on some guitars , well it’s not really another finish but just A logo on it. Personally i don’t like that design so I’d have to get the bass for cheaper then A standard one goes for which here is around $600, there I’m not sure what they go for.

I think that was made for A promotional thing, maybe A give away or warped tour etc

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I'd never seen a finish like that, and was wondering about the instrument's legitimacy. I think it's a horrid paint job too, awful really... but we don't really get USA SUBs down here in Chile very often, so there's not a lot where to pick from. The only other SUB I've seen being sold around here is at 1,230 dollars, which is ridiculous!

I posted a while ago about my S.U.B., which i love but doesn’t get the playing time it should because the painted neck has become shiny with use and slightly sticky.

I’ve since gone over it with fine steel wool, which has helped somewhat, but not quite enough.

What are my options? In an ideal world, I’d like to have the original finish restored, but I realize it may not be possible. What do you think? A complete refinish? Sand the paint off completely and oil it like a StingRay? I’ve also toyed with the idea of replacing the neck with a Status Graphite neck.

I'm sure I'm going to flack for this but,.. I use a glove so, finish or no finish, it doesn't matter...

If it were me, I think I would try out the graphite neck...

Hi guys... I've been gassing hard for one of these for a while. I had the Sub Ray 4 and liked it, kinda regret selling it. So I saw this in my local classifieds and wondered what you guys thought about it. It seems legit, but I've never seen a finish like this one. The owner claims it was a custom paint job done by the company. Here's the link: Invalid Link Removed

It's around 800 bucks.

Thanks!!
This looks like one of the Musicman guitars and basses that apparently were given as prizes at the Emergenza festival. This is the 2004 version, but I’ve seen versions for other years as well. Not my favourite paint job, but it does speak to its authenticity. And you can always do a refin.

I'd be tempted to buy it and spray it.
The price is attractive where you are and they're great basses.
If you spray the body with a can of nitrocellulose paint after cleaning it well, it'll adhere and since the look is already rough you don't need to polish it.
It'll acquire dings and marks fast... but can look pretty cool. If you ever want to restore it... you can remove the paint very very easily with the right solvent.

Of course you can go for a proper refinish... but as a quick and cheap option I think it'll look good.

Refinish is a good option. If you like an oil finish you can do it yourself easily.
I sanded the paint off the back of neck,of my 2003,because of all the scratches, and put 3 coats,of natural stain, then sanded it down to nice natural satin finish. I kept the front of the head stock, with original black, and original logo. First time ever tried this, was little nervous, but took lot of patience! Only thing that really stands out is the ding, above the E tuner, that couldn't smooth out? Guess just be some mojo character!

I got this custom pick guard with the intention of putting it on the black 2003 SUB,you see in previous post, and it sold before the pick guard was received! So I decided to put it on the white 2003 SUB,I have. I had the tort on it before,I put the black pearl like one on. Certain way the light hits it,has some blue tint? Couple of pics to show the difference.
