SA Aftershock- good outta the box?

I’m looking for a good pedal to crank out that Jack Bruce tone. I love the sound he had with Cream and WB&L. I’m using an Epi EB0 I upgraded to a Dimarzio Model One pickup. I currently own an EHX Soul Food for bass which does an ok job but really doesn’t get that tone 100%. I’ve got a Big Muff Deluxe for bass which doesn’t get it at all. Competes with the guitars too much. I just ordered an EXH Green Russian from Sweetwater as kind of a Hail Mary shot at getting this tone but really won’t know until I’ve tried it out.

I do however remember watching some videos of the Source Audio Aftershock and being really impressed by the tones that rig can produce. Would that come closer to getting those burnin JB tones? Also I’ve read that that pedal can be tailored using software on your computer. I have no interest in doing that so is it good right out of the box?

Im not sure how close you can get to the tone you want, but i can tell you that the AS is pretty amazing right out of the box. In fact having played around with a lot of the published user tones ive reverted mine back to stock and couldn't be happier.
You dont actually need a computer to edit it, you can use a phone or tablet, but IMO there really isnt any need. With the 4 knobs there is so much variation that im sure you can find something that works, at least to start with.

Its good out of the box, generally speaking. But if you have a sound in your head you’re probably going to want to dive deeper into the Aftershock with the editor. It doesn’t take much via either the app or desktop and I promise you’ll avoid the pedal flipping you’re doing now.
Yeah I’m going nuts dumping money into EHX and not getting the results I want. Does Sweetwater sell the AS? Where can I find one?

The AfterShock can do most anything. I think you can get what you want on the 'tube' setting with low gain, and of course it has the clean blend as well which helps.

Also thinking of selling mine if you'd want a used one. Send me a PM if interested. I love it, but just don't use od/dist/fuzz much and need to pay some bills this month :)

Killer! What’s that Chicago music exchange? Is that an online store to get these?

I bet right outta the box you *can* dial in the jack Bruce sound with the toggle on "tube" with no problems. I just got mine last week and couldn't be happier, but yeah...you probably will wanna explore some of the user presets as you get so much variety!

You don't need the hub or midi for presets either, you can burn 3 presets onto the pedal itself (I did with my android)and switch them with the mini toggle (this is what I'm doing)

You can actualy burn 6, 3 in normal mode and 3 in red mode......then try and remeber what has what on it lol.

I wasn’t a huge fan. It offered some decent sounds, but I wasn’t blown away. I liked the Darkglass and Fuzzface clones the best. The features for the price are unbeatable, if you like what you hear. Many rigs are different. YMMV

If you want Jack Bruce sound, you will definitely not want to use the sounds out of the box. One is based on Darkglass stuff with a metally mid scoop, one is based on the Big Muff, and while the Ampeg-emulating overdrive might get you in the ballpark, I think you're going to want to push your mids more for Jack Bruce tone. That sound is definitely possible to cop, but you'll likely need to go in and tweak sounds with the Neuro editor. Might try one of the Rat engines or an OCD engine.

Get the cable and use your phone, or plug into a computer and use the editor. Tons of user presets online. Selling my OFD, but the Aftershock and Manta are staying!!
Where do you get the cable to go between say an iPhone and this pedal? And can you install the editor on your phone? My PowerBooks 12 years old and is just about incompatible with everything.
