SA Aftershock- good outta the box?

The Aftershock on paper seems like a dirt playing bassist's dream come true, but I wonder how those digital emulations translate in the real world of gigging. I ask because I have a Zoom B1Xon that sounds so amazing thru headphones in the bedroom, but every time I A/B it against a "real pedal" (I.E Rat emulation vs a Volt Thrower), it's very clear to me that the digi sounds lack a lot of punch. How are you guys liking the Aftershock with a band at high volumes?

I like it OK but I prefer the analog stuff when possible.

Is there a reason to buy the Bass VT DI over the Bass VT? I’ve noticed a few websites have recently stopped selling the basic one without the blend knob and DI out. I’m also wondering how useful that blend knob is. I’ve ready the eq’s are still active even when blend is rolled all the way back.

Some people prefer the DI but I use the Deluxe myself.

I just ordered one! From the youtube videos its definitely got the sound and the controls I am after. I don't care if my pedals are analog or digital. If it sounds good (to my ears) then that is what matters.

I'll report back once I give it a test run. Hopefully it arrives before next rehearsal.

Not true imo. The Hot Wax is amazing and more than holding its own amongst the big boys. I had a Terraformer and thought is was actually kind of sterile and had no treble bite. I guess it boils down to different strokes for different folks, but man, don't sleep on the Hot Wax. That thing is absolutely great.

I think we established long ago that we have different taste in dirt.

The AS is a great pedal. I'm not a dirt snob, so I can't comment on whether it's on-par or not as good as some analog alternatives, but for my board, it's invaluable. Yes, out of the box you can get some great tones, but once you dig in on the app or on PC, you have an enormous range of controls and options... almost too much. If you can't get the tone you're looking for, I'm not sure it's attainable.

I have this and the VT bass deluxe on my board. The VT is my in-ears "amp", since I send the DI to the board. If you do something similar, it'll be useful to have both on your board. If you're like a lot of people, and only need one dirt, then you may be sending one back. Hard to say which one though, as they're both pretty dang good.

The Aftershock seems like a cool pedal, but fresh outta the box the tone knob doesn’t work on mine. Is that common? Do I need to get an app and make some settings?
