Sad Day. Atkinson closes shop.

Did you read the entire thread? Did you read the part where the buyer demeaned and insulted Atkinson, over the same bass he previously gushed with praise. Did you read the part where the buyer tried to sell that bass here, and quickly deleted the for-sale thread when Atkinson caught him? How about the buyer scratching the name off the headstock? Did you read that?

Wow.

I didn't know about that incident.

I don't think I could comment on that situation in a Talkbass-appropriate way.

Makes absolute no difference in the end. Yea it sucked on the buyers part and how he returned it for a refund. But Dan sold it on eBay for a price he listed as. Maybe the bass was only worth the cost he sold it at? You cannot condemn the guy who bought it at a bargain. If the bass was worth more than the price sold for he could've sold it for much more but he chose not to.

What??? It makes ALL the difference. The issue ISN'T about the buyer re-purchasing the bass on ebay through a shill. It's about the buyer's appalling, despicable behavior surrounding the ebay purchase.

Think about how many fenders are returned on a daily basis. That's just part of the business. Truth be told, if you can't take back returns no matter how much of an ass a customer is, don't even think about getting in the business. That's the hard truth of running a small business.
Yes fender is a huge company but every business starts somewhere.

All I'm going to say is Dan didn't close his shop because of one customer. He had no problem with the buyer returning the bass in the first place. The guy wasn't satisfied with it, so Dan refunded him in full. That wasn't the issue. There was a lot more to the story.

Regardless, can we just drop the whole affair regarding Dan and that one guy? Dan said there were a few "bad apples" that bought basses from him that lead to him closing shop. It just so happens that one of them is a TalkBass member and there was a giant thread about it. That's a personal issue between him and Dan. Not us. If I'm not mistaken, that thread was locked because several people couldn't remain civilized. Let's not have this one locked, too.

Dan is a great guy and very easy to deal with. If you have a problem with him, take it up with him. Not a message board. I sincerely hope my Atkinson isn't the only one I ever own.

NO! This is an issue that needs to be made public so people who buy and sell on TB know who they're dealing with. As someone who buys and sells on TB, I want to know about people like this!!

I don't have a bone here. I hope you read where HE didn't buy the bass from Ebay. Someone he knew did and then he bought it after the guy didn't want it.

You are making it a simple return the bass and re-buy for 500 less where is that isn't the case at all. He even proved it by showing that it wasn't his Ebay ID that bought it.

Either way this is:

That person has been on these forums for a while and has great feedback.

Uh huh. "Someone he knows" bought the bass on ebay. Right. I believe that. :rollno:

As I told a previous poster, you have completely missed the point. It's his behavior before and after buying the bass on ebay that's the issue. (How many times am I going to have to point this out!!??)

If you want to buy from "that person", you go right ahead and do it. Not me.

There was definitely something fishy about the whole situation. His attitude towards the bass changed almost daily. The fact that he bought it back after he said it was poorly setup and not built to his specifications is odd as hell.

Regardless, let's just leave it as is. I won't say anymore on the subject. Dan will always be a top-notch guy in my books. I'd buy him a beer (or coffee if he doesn't drink) any day of the week. Even Monday.

That's a personal choice and I respect that, however that person has even bought and sold stuff with mods with 100% feedback. Everything you are commenting on is third person or heresay. If I were that person I would be fumed someone on here was trying to further discredit my name because of a bass purchase that went south from a builder that just also happens to post here. I have dealt with Dan in the past regarding items he had for sale and he seems like a nice guy as well.

Again no bone to pick here, but this really is only business between the buyer and seller since it was private transaction off of Talkbass forums. They said/he said isn't going to fix anything, but it is disheartening to me that the mods have let this defamation go on this long. Since this wasn't a Talkbass transaction for a bass on sale on the forums, feedback system doesn't apply. :scowl:

Dan is at fault as well for posting the details of a private business transaction on a non Talkbass sale if you really want to dig into it. I am done here. I just hate seeing these kind of attacks on here for something that has already been covered ad nauseam.

Edit: Spelling and grammar.
