Sad times

There's been no great deals here in NZ lately and i have definitely been looking. I'm lucky enough that I am in no immediate risk of financial stress so if a great buy pops up i'll snap it up.

Like just about anything in life, when someone is losing, someone else will be winning. I can guarantee there will be some great deals to purchase businesses in the medium turn and the right operator, with a little luck, might buy a bar at a steal and make it better than it ever was. Bad luck for the previous owner.... good luck for the new.

Maybe more people will start to understand what many of our grandparents and great-grandparents knew.... whenever possible you want to have enough money to survive 3 months of zero income. That means enough to pay rent/mortgage, food and power. For the last 50 years people have become very complacent.

Maybe with people being locked in their houses some significant others have found all these instruments stashed and are selling them for what their spouses said they cost? You can only play one at a time after all, apparently.

Seems to be some distress instrument selling going on my way.
Not too many outrageous deals on guitars but basses are popping up cheap. Just missed a 1971 Fender Telecaster bass . First $650 got it. Guy needed quick mortgage money.Been seeing German Warwick's for under $1000.
I really didn't want to buy any bass stuff until I started gigging again but one deal came my way. I got a Candy Apple Red Peavey Foundation,a black Peavey Fury(p bass pickup) & a Peavey Forum(PJ set up) that's pickups aren't working for $225. All USA models.I know Peavey's don't have a lot of collectable mojo but they're really fine sounding basses. The forum's in nice shape & I haven't really checked it out to see what's wrong with the pups The other two are ready to go.

So far I am fortunate as is my family. I've been eyeballing a few basses and GASsing a little but I've decided I'm not going to underpay for someone who's already hurting. When things get easier maybe I'll pull the trigger. I don't want the karma baggage of ripping someone off right now. Stay healthy and hang in there brothers and sisters.

+1. I’m not really in the market for anything at the moment but still like to browse, but I agree prices have went up overall. 40 million jobs lost and mostly the same stuff at the same prices or higher.

Bring locked up with my spousal unit for near 10 weeks, I have decided to clean house. Well, not literally - that's HER job. (boom, tish) I have an old Fender Strat under my bed that I pulled out, took a few pictures, and a well-known guitar dealer in Nashville is offering me enough to get a "decent-but-not-great" Tele and case and amp. Not that I "need" the money, but I have realized that someone could enjoy her much more than I ever will, and I can use that to my advantage. I am a bedroom guitarist at my very best, so a new Tele and amp will do me more good than holding onto the Strat. (BTW, I paid $250 for her in 1978.)

I might be looking to sell a bass or two - both lefty, though.

Just browsing the classifieds and it seems like there are quite a few beautiful instruments being offered for much less than I would have expected 5 months ago. Some may see a good deal but I see people experiencing some hard times and it’s really making me depressed. That’s all.

I don't know prices quite as well as some other folks around here, but I don't think we've seen any incredible deals, or a huge surge in the amount of equipment being offered. I also have a feeling that there are a fair amount of buyers out there, and that keeps prices up.

I think the real pain will hit later in the year.

I got a mint G&L for a grand a couple weeks ago. Late model option order, the real deal.

A few "yeah maybe";
Several "you serious?";
Lots of scrolling "next".

The local Sam Ash and Guitar Centers have reopened so me and my son are going hunting this week. We'll see what's up.

Same thing happened in 2008/9, 1999/2000, 1989/1990. Cycles.
If you're lucky you sell on a high spot. Got "lucky" and sold some at a "high" just before 2008(children's college expenses).

Sold in a downturn in 1989 to move from Louisiana to Texas....HAD TO so engineering work could be had(in Texas, at the end of the engineering "bust").
Only bought 1 "corona bargain", a 5 string Peavey Foundation to match the 4 string here. VERY good deal IMO, been looking for a match with maple board for YEARS. The Foundation(s) go when the Geddy Jazz stays home, they're that good.

Never had this one happen although I've seen that psycho look many times at various places in life. Escape quietly and quickly lest your life get wrecked.

The only deal I immediately jumped on was at GC online. I guess someone screwed up and posted a fender American PJ bass as a squier bass for $249 used and I quickly snagged it!

How noble of you? Sonehow? Ps someone else is going to buy it but if you stand taller for not paying those looking for money good for you (I guess).

Not because they want to be I am sure, times are hard for a lot of people out there. Sometimes you must do what you have to do. It's sad but there is not shame at all in having selling some of your things to provide for yourself and your family.

Haven't seen any great deals yet, so I think the reason many sell is because they realize they don't need it after spending so much time at home.
It made me realize how much stuff I have. I haven't sold any bass gear, but donated lots of clothes and even some furniture. When you really start to play with the tools you have, you start to realize how little you actually need.

I don't see any deals. What I experienced trying to sell a couple of basses on basschat (for obvious reasons, being in Europe) was people trying to low ball me. Some people are trying to take advantage of the situation making offensive offers.

I ended up giving them up to a part exchange deal and the store offered me a fair price, bigger offer than the ones I received trying to sell private.
