Clearly, but +/-50V still requires >50V caps, one for each rail.

As I said previously, it wasn't the caps. The most common cause of a fried power amp is a shorted output or too little impedance because of extension cab use, but of course that's just a guess in this case.

There are many reasons why a manufacturer will select a particular product or value. Maybe the footprint on the board dictated that this 50V cap was the one to use. Maybe this product is capable of a sustained over voltage without any loss of service life within the operating parameters of this product. It might perform as well or better than a 63V cap from another company. The specs of one product may be more conservative than another. Then again, it might have been the wrong design choice. All these things happen, and more.
It is hard to second guess these sort of issues without knowing what went into the decisions.
Last thing from me. I'm glad you guys had some fun with the thread. I asked the tech and he said that for the obvious reasons, he didn't spend a lot of time on a post mortem but he thought the meltdown probably started at one of the driver transistors. It was blown off the board and into two parts.
