Sadowsky hardshell case vs. gig bag??

Thanks everyone in this thread that has actually stayed on topic of my original question. Lots of good thoughts and insights.

Thanks Roger, for popping into what is becoming a little bit of an ugly thread. Definitely some good thoughts on the ultra lite vs. traditional hard case questions.

I am definitely leaning more and more towards getting the gig bag and then just getting a flight case for the few times I really need to travel via air with my bass.

IMHO I don't like gigbags. IMHO I think it sucks that basses from any brand that cost thousands come with a gigbag instead of a hardshell case. IMHO,IMHO,IMHO,IMHO,IMHO,IMHO,IMHO,IMHO,IMHO!

Just between you and me, I heard from a reliable source that at the last meeting of The League of Extraordinary Luthiers (at an undisclosed location) the consensus was that they offered gigbags just to piss you off.

Eric M - I had a similar experience with the very 1st bass I ordered new in '73. My fresh from Fender sunburst/rosewood jazz arrived with no bad marks or gashes on the box. Once the standard tolex case was opened, the headstock was snapped completely off of the neck. I was tired of waiting and let the dealer sell me one just like that one Geddy eventually scored in a pawn shop. A hard case can have its drawbacks...

To make an attempt to bring this thead back home:

I have used Sadowsky single and double gig bags with no damage to my basses or guitars for the past 5 years or so. And I like being able to sling it (the gig bag!) over my shoulder and carry other gear in my hands to minimize trips to and from the car.

I used to have hardshell cases for 20 years prior: no more. Best of luck and enjoy your Sadowsky NYC! :)

It's not like you can't sling an ATA case over your shoulder and carry other stuff too.

Jim, the thought of you walking around with your bass all unprotected like that gives me the willies.
