Sadowsky Metro owners, unite!!!

My two. The PJ on the left is my go-to bass for everything. I am working up the courage to order another. . . in trans-yellow! Well, if they will agree to it. Wait, now I want trans-Mardi Gras colors! Now I want. . . . .

can you go through the body wood, and pickup configuration/controls on this? That is nice.
Sure, it is a Metro UV model, with ash body and maple neck. I opted to go for the single coil pickups as opposed to the standard humcancelling ones. Like other Sadowsky basses (with the exception of the Will Lee Model) it has a bass and treble boost control and a volume control. It also has the Vintage tone control installed.

Ever since I got it, recording engineers are amazed at how well it works in a mix. A friend of mine is has been pestering me to sell it for ages ever since I let him use it for a while. I am kinda tempted to sell it and shoot for a NYC model but really it sounds so good that I'm concerned about being stuck with a new bass which might not sound as good as this one.

I've had a bunch of Sadowskys over time.
They've all been supremely well built, great playing basses.
They've all been Metro's because I just don't need "fancy woods" or non-standard colors, and, they've all been in a weight range I can deal with.

This is the one I still have; single coil MV5.
Super simple, ash/maple, black pick guard.
Plays great, sounds great, and "just disappears in my hands."

Must admit that I have (gasp) modified my RV4 by replacing the pups with Delano JMVC4's. For my needs, this was a dramatic tonal improvement on an already outstanding instrument. These Delano's just give MUCH more versatility.

The unexpected thing for me is I originally purchased this bass as kind of a stop-gap, thinking I would upgrade to an NYC. I still think about that at times. But, as Chef so eloquently put it, this thing just melts into my playing. So, why fix something that ain't broke?

what do the Delanos bring to the table?
I've never had those in anything.
Couple things. First the neck pup soloed produces a VERY credible cavernous P sound. That was a bit of an unexpected surprise. With both pups full on, the slap tone has that hammer on granite thing that I could never get with the humbuckers (sorry, Roger). Also, full on produces a very growly plectrum sound. Bridge pup soloed is pretty close to my Fender Jazz. Output is high, to say the least. They are dead silent and hum cancelling. And then, with Roger's preamp, you pretty much get to have your cake and eat it too.

Unfortunately, the 5 string version is sized for 18mm spacing. I believe Delano will build for 19mm; but, no idea on cost/hassle/lead time etc. I have discussed the 18mm dimensions with the NYC shop folks; and, the response was kind of, "yeah, well, maybe." I think they are underwhelmed at this point to work with other pups. BUT, IME, these really are a pretty dramatic improvement over humcancelling, and may be more versatile than the single coils. MY $0.19, as always.

I didn't care for the Sadowsky HC either; they feel mid-scooped to me compared to the single coil stuff I'm used to.
But, the Sadowsky SC's work great for me.

Agree. I like those a lot. Only problem I ran into with those was that they lit up like a Christmas tree on a couple of stages with bad lighting. Both were unfortunately pretty big gigs, and that made me a little reluctant. I will say that the Delanos produce a far more useable (even great) P tone from the neck pup; and that makes them even better than the SC's for my purposes. With a 5, you really don't have the option, unless Delano made the pups on a custom basis; and that would be WAY too much pain for me vs what the SC's already do.

I have one venue I work a lot where you just really can't play a single coil J in.
(not a problem while you play, but, major annoying Zzzzzzzz til you shut the volume b/t songs)
So.
I have a PJ for that.

There you go.

Actually, one of those problem gigs for me was playing behind Frank Gorshen (the Riddler; holy old-timers Batman). Not fun when it happens on the gig.
