Safe purchase through craigslist?

I'm tring to buy a bass on craiglist that's too far to see in person. I've read a while ago about a way to do this through UPS or other service where they hold the bass, you pay when you pick it up and they make payment to the seller. Does this sound familiar. Can anyone suggest other options that will accomplish the same while protecting buyer and seller? Thanks.

That might be the case but I seriously doubt you'll be allowed to open the package prior to signing and paying for it. Would you trust the seller? You might get lucky, or ???
It's kinda like Let's Make A Deal and you need to choose door 1, 2, or 3.

I trust people on craigslist (and FB Marketplace) about as far as I can throw my Ampeg mini-stack while balancing one-legged on a skateboard.

If you can't meet up, consider something like paypal goods & services where you have recourse if something goes wrong. Ask for videos, their social media, talk on the phone, etc. A legit seller would have no issue with it. GLWTP!

I've never really had a bad experience on Craigslist but I also wouldn't go that far out of my city limits without feeling pretty good about the seller through a few emails. Is the deal amazing or is it a rare item? Just seems like it's not a good idea.

I drove an hour for my genzler bass array for 425$ for example. But I get free charging with my car and that is probably as far as I would go.

I contacted a CL seller across the country and asked if he'd consider shipping. I offered PayPal and told him that I would kick in the extra to cover G&S fees. It all went smoothly. One of my best deals yet. You got to get a gut check in any deal. Got a good vibe on this one.

I've done it for someone here , even bought it for them and shipped it !
