SAFELY clean the pots on Peavey TNT 130?

I was given this amp a couple years ago and just yesterday got around to testing it out. Three of the pots are scratchy on it. I'd like to open it up and spray the pots with contact cleaner, but I'm not real certain how to do that safely given capacitors and risk of shock. This is a solid state amp, and the first I've ever owned. Although I'm not a TOTAL noob when it comes to electronics, I'm pretty close. About the most sophisticated thing I've done is built one of Craig Anderton's guitar pedal projects (compressor), but I don't work on amps.

If you go on youtube you'll find people just opening up their amps to demo how to clean the pots and they just tell you to be careful what you touch. Not too bright.

Anyone have the electronics background to know how to do this safely for this amp?

Unplug the amp from the power source and let sit 5 min.

Use only Caig DeOxit D-5, and just the tiniest amount of spray possible into the slot that the terminals exit from and rotate a few times. Less is more.

Thanks! I've read that most solid state amps like this discharge automatically. I wasn't 100% sure if that applied to this particular amp. Always safe > sorry (or dead).

It's been sitting in my garage unplugged since yesterday afternoon and realistically I won't open it up until Saturday so yeah that should be plenty of time. That said, I'll only ever touch the stuff I absolutely have to for the task.

Deoxit 5 is available in a spray can with a three position low, med, high sprayer setting.

I recommend that version.

Before using it for the first time, do one test spritz on the low setting, to become accustomed to the way it works so you don't over do it.

Orient the pot so that the slot you are spraying into is pointing downward if you can, so that any excess can just run out, and immediately operate the pot before the solvent dries out.
