Mods, not sure where to post this, but a friend of mine who works in upper management for Sam Ash just got an internal memo that ALL, not half, of Sam Ash stores are closing.

Yup. That was a couple months ago. They made the call to close them all. Hang tight.

When MARS closed, the liquidation company came in and prices shot up along with 40% off everything. Except, not really. But things were flying off the shelves.

The Sam Ash store near me hasn't had anything in it worth stopping for for years now.

I returned a JMJ Mustang to Sam Ash that came to me in rough shape and they never took back the $50 gift card nor the Rakuten cash back that I got for the order. No mystery why they are going out of business if they're so disorganized that they send $100+ in promos for a returned item.

I spent many hours in Sam Ash as a young musician, and the experience was highly beneficial to me. It’s really sad to me to hear they’re closing all stores.

This is really sad news. Sam Ash is/was an institution. Tough times man.

That is something, if true. Sad news for the folks who will undoubtedly lose their jobs in an already tough market if that's the case. I was surprised to see that there are only 44 Sam Ash stores in the US, including the 18 that were due to close already following the last announcement. I had always imagined there would be more. That said, I've never stepped foot inside one so I don't know what their offering is like. Here in the UK, guitar stores have really had to up their game to continue to prosper and some chains and well known stores have fallen by the wayside as a result.

It's a tough time for anyone running business through a brick-and-mortar store. I wish things weren't the way they are. The world was more fun and meaningful before the Internet showed up (sorry, TalkBass... but it's true).

However, the big-box music store era ran longer than it should have considering all the poor moves and shady dealings done at those places. Good riddance.

I will forever miss all the independent, mom-n-pop music stores I used to frequent. Those places were fun, unique and usually employed good people.

Yeah, Guitar Center recently announced a restructuring of the level of goods sold. They are trying to up the quality and stock inventory more in line with players, not beginner hobbyists, so to speak. Times they are a changin'.

I don't support "big box" chain music stores for the sake of themselves, but it would astound the average TBer to know that locally owned joints can in fact be worse to shop at than GC or Sam Ash.

Same here! The last time they had the goods was before the pandemic, which has only accelerated the so-called retail apocalypse.

The more we buy online, the less seems to be available locally and the more shipping we do.

the more shipping we do, the worse shippers seem to get. More wandering packages, more damaged goods, more delays.

It is truly the best of all possible worlds.
