Sandberg Lionel short scale bass

look buddy, you got some kind of nerve starting a thread like this and not including pictures
Very interested to know how these necks compare to Hofner's. The each have 22 frets and are 30". Not sure of the neck depth.
Anybody play both and care to comment?

I've never played a Hofner, so can't help with that. However I can say that this Sandberg neck has the nicest feel of any bass I've owned.
Width at nut is 40 mm, same as the P-type bass I was previously playing, which is also slightly wider than the Sire U5 which was my first shorty. The neck feels a little flatter front to back than the Sire, although I don't have measurements to know that for sure.

The Sandberg guide that came with my Lionel short scale does not show the correct information regarding the bridge. The photo of the bridge seems wrong in the pamphlet. I need to adjust intonation on the E string. The video shows the same bridge as I have on my Lionel. I thought I would share.
I really like my bass. It is soft aged cream with a matching headstock. Maple neck (not the roasted maple). It came with round wounds and has more of a modern sound compared to a P. I have a couple other short scale basses, and they do not compare with this one. I am glad I made the purchase.
Odd that it came with a very large Sandberg gig bag made for a 34" scale bass but it is a nice gig bag with a Velcro strap to secure the neck.

Here is a pic. The action and playability of this bass are amazing.
Well I took the plunge, never having the chance to play a Lionel. Neck questioned answered.
At the nut, the Lionel is very close to the Hofner HCT. Similar width, depth and string spacing. As you go up to the 12th - 22nd frets, the Lionel neck gets much wider than the Hofner's.
In addition, my Lionel has the maple neck as compared to the rosewood on the Hofner; and the frets are a little lower on the Lionel. So it does feel a bit different in fingering, but plays very easily.
My issue with the Lionel is the width of the neck at the upper end. Maybe I'll get used to it, or maybe this will wind up in the classified section.

After several practice sessions on my sofa, I decided to part with my "New" Lionel.
Love it on the low end, but the high end of the fret board is just a little too wide for my short, old fingers.

Using a tape measure: It's about 2.25 inches at the 12th fret and 2.5 inches at the 22nd.
Strings are about 1 5/8 at the 12th fret and 2 1/8 at the 22nd.

My bass teacher has one and lets me play it now and agin, it's beautiful - the neck is thinner than the JMJ Mustang that I own. I prefer the neck on the Sandberg, and it's thumpy. If I could afford one it would be in my bag.
I agree. I also have a CIJ Mustang and a Lakland Skyline Hollowbody short scale. I would say the Sandy has a much better neck than either bass, thinner, amazing. I have larger hands and used to think I liked a chunkier neck, the playability of the Sandy changed that. With the short scale and the thinner profile, I can play it longer… more songs with less fatigue.
Which do you like better, the Lionel or Skyline hollow body? I'm considering both of them.
I like the Sandberg Lionel better. I no longer have the Lakland Skyline hollowbody. The CIJ Mustang is my backup which I only play once in a while. The Lionel is my main bass for every gig. Good luck to you. I hope you enjoy your new bass.
Old thread, but I'll give it a go: anyone who had the chance to play both the Lionel (with flatts) and the JMJ Mustang? I currently play the mustang (and a Supro Huntington II), but I am tempted to sell the JMJ for a Lionel...
