Sang Lead First Time.

I just gotta share it here.

I've sung backup/harmony in bands I've been in. Kind of seemed like an afterthought sometimes...I know there's a few that I can handle lead on, just never really got the chance.

This new bunch, everyone sings. There is no lead singer. Practice tonight I randomly picked Break Down by Tom Petty. I've played it before, never sang it. I hit every note. Not sure what my range is. I stumbled a bit on the bass which is normal on certain songs before I practice lyrics with bass.

I gotta tell you I'm so freaking stoked. I already know I can do this, and I'm going to do it well. I love to sing. Love this song. I've got five songs to pick this week, that'll be the first and honestly if I can nail this I'll be more than happy.

Singing lead and having other guys back me up was really really different. Felt GREAT !!!!

I guess the most important important thing here is I'm being recognized as able to sing lead. By others but more importantly myself. I've only been doing bands for 3 years. This band is the first with the philosophy that everyone sings. I just feel great. Like it's a huge jump. I know I can sing and play, probably need to start finding which songs I can do lol...

And learning a poopie ton of lyrics !!!!!!

Thanks for Reading I just needed to share it !!!!!!

I used to sing that last time I was in a band 20 years back, but I just can't hit the high notes any more, now I do the whole thing an octave down...

Many many moons ago in my first steady gigging band I hung in the background plucking my G&L when they first came out.It was a fun original "punk" band made somewhat unique by me being the only white guy in the cities only "black" punk band.In rehearsals I tried singing a totally lame song mostly stolen from Cheap Tricks' Southern Girls.(Hey,I was young and naive) We show up at a gig and there's a pretty good crowd at the "Cage"(Cool punk club name of the era) In the soundcheck I noticed a mic set up on my side but thought nothing of it.
The set goes on as usual until about halfway when our singer says "You Ready"? then proceeds to strum the opening chords to " my "original" number.Needless to say I was scared stiff but somehow made it to the end.
But this was probably one of the best things to happen as it led to my eventually becoming a lead singing bass player.I never had a shortage of gigs and may have gotten some for my voice over my playing. You never know where something will lead you.
