okay i am not the sharpest cookie in the drawer, or however that saying goes :eyebrow:

but, i am picking up a sans amp bddi and i want to use is to bypass my preamp in my GK 1001rb i know i have to plug my bass into the SABDDI and then the sans into my effects return, now my question is still wanting to utilize my pedal board how do i hook that up.....seeing how currently i go guitar>pedal board>amp input
see i want the sans amp to strictly emulate ampeg SVT classic.

hmmmmm sure seems like it woulda been more difficult than that :eyebrow:

see for some odd reason i was under the impression that you'd want to run the sans by it self through the loop---thus confusing the crap out of me

Yup. They pretty much got ya taken care of, nubs. ;-D

You sansamp is going to be replacing your preamp, so by placing it in between your pedals and your return jack is the easiest way to bypass your preamp completely. It's just in a pedal form. :D

nubs,

Did you find one?

okay another question is this possible if so how can i do it?

i want run my effects through the GK input, but i would like to run the sans through the effects return, is this possible? how would i go about doing this and would it be benefial, same effect, same tonal quality what?? :hmm:

I suppose the question I have in response is why?

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

It would be somewhat different tonally, but yes, you could do it. Simply connect the input of the SansAmp to the Effects Send.

BASS => Pedalboard => GK Input => Effects Send => SansAmp => Effects Return => GK Poweramp

Again, simple as that. :p

I'd suggest reading into the uses of the effects loop for future reference, as it's also the place for most rack effects. If it can handle a line-level load, it can go in this loop, and since the SansAmp BDDI has the switch to adjust this, it'll work fine (you would have to use the little line-level switch anyway, since it has to drive the signal either way you do it).

Now, because you are closing the loop, the GK preamp will be in the mix as well. Fortunately for you, the preamp is pretty clean-sounding overall; it's more of a feature-packed EQ system than anything else.

fdeck did a thread (in the Amps forum, I believe) about how to set your GK preamp's EQ to "true flat" - that is, dialing out most of GK's signature voicing curve to get a flat response on most frequencies. It might be useful for you, since you're trying to minimize the coloration from the GK preamp.

I think this could really be advantageous; I never took the time to try it when I had a SansAmp BDDI, but I'd imagine the EQ features of the GK preamp would really help out the SansAmp and its simple EQ system. Then again, I'm not 100% on how it'll sound, but I doubt it'd be much different than the usual SansAmp-to-poweramp setup you were going for here.

Since you're planning on getting a SansAmp to be placed here... why not consider a rackmount SansAmp RBI? It'd give you an extra control (the Mid knob) and would do the same job, without the hassle of a little unsecured pedal on top of your amp.

Class dismissed :D

To do this you'd have to put all of your effects either in the FX loop of your amp, or you'd have only the Sansamp in the FX loop with everything else before the GK's preamp.

If you're really looking for that SVT sound, this is a bit counterproductive in my opinion. This way, it's almost like running 2 preamps. There's no real advantage to this IMO over running Bass->effects->Sansamp->Return (which removes coloration completely from the GK preamp to allow the Sansamp to more fully emulate an SVT) If anything, running the sansamp and the GK amp both as preamps would probably be more trouble because you have twice as much to tweak.

So for your situation I'd recommend 1 of 2 things:

Bass->Effects->Sansamp->Return (bypasses GK preamp, use Sansamp as preamp)

or

Bass->Effects->Sansamp->Amp Normally (While you still run through the GK preamp, you should achieve pretty much the same effect)

I'd suggest that you try out both and see what you like best. :bassist:

Right on!

Whoops... Boo beat me to it.

Side note: I don't think the Sansamp can handle Line level outputs. It's a relatively touch sensitive OD pedal, too. I think line level signals would be too much and would drive it into distortion.

IMO

Spanky, did you read the thread by any chance? Especially the previous post? :p

:D :hiding:

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently, we're competing for commentary here. He just beat me to the punchline :hmm:

But you might have a good point there - I never tested how the SansAmp BDDI handles a line-level INPUT. I know output is not a problem for it, but input could be a different story. You could dial down the input level on the GK preamp, or even use the -14dB pad, but I'm still not 100% on the end result regarding whether or not the BDDI will still get pushed into instant overdrive. Not that it's a bad thing, but if you want a clean tone, I'm not entirely sure it will work out okay.

...another reason to get the RBI instead of the BDDI! If you find one used, it wouldn't be much more than the BDDI.

I too have a question I am running a Boss TU 2 tuner the Sansamp Bass driver di to the effects return on my Yourville bass master Xs 800 head does this sound about right or do I have to change it around like this= 1) Bass, 2) Sansamp bass di 3) Boss TU 2 Pedal tuner, 4) Yorkville head to the effects return? please let me know if this is right guys I'm kinda new to all these effect stuff and its my first time trying to hook all of this stuff up!

It really doesn't matter either way.

Bass => Tuner => SansAmp => Effects Return is essentially the same as
Bass => SansAmp => Tuner => Effects Return

The only reason why I would suggest you keep the tuner in front is because if the SansAmp is on, the tuner might not read all the notes correctly, especially if it's set for an overdriven tone. Otherwise, when the SansAmp is off, it makes no difference where the tuner is.

You could also run both pedals in front of the preamp (regular input) instead of into the Effects Return. Whether you prefer that tone is entirely up to you. Just be sure to set the 1/4" output to LINE if you skip if you're doing it via the Effects Return.
