Double Bass Sarno Black Box

I still have it, it will go out to Chris on Monday, I didn't want to risk shipping it over Christmas or New Years, and have something get dammaged. Plus, Brad just put it on his porch when I picked it up in a little cloth bag.

It needs a foam padded box to send it out.

So Rick Do you still have the BB or has it gone on to Chris or Earl?...Kinda hard for me to coordinate I'm hoping that it is clear thru Earl....Michael it will prolly still be a few months.
Hey Piro; I'm interested in the BB's effect when plugged into a Tonedexter (Full Circle into BB into Tonedexter). I typically use between 80-90% Tonedexter wavemap with 10-20% pickup. Also, would it affect new wavemaps created with the pickup plugged into the BB and then into the TD?

When someone with the TD gets the Sarno maybe they can test this out. I just want everyone to understand that we're all working musicians with lives and jobs. Reviewing the Sarno BB is something we're doing on our own time, out of the kindness of our hearts. We are receiving no compensation for our participation. :)

What do you use to pull out the 700hz freqs and do you use before or after the Black Box?
I use either a parametric eq on my amp or a grace Felix but as Ric says, with the BB it becomes almost unnecessary. I go from my bass into the BB right away, then into preamp, amp, whatever finishes your signal chain. The Black Box isn't a miracle worker, but it is a really nice piece of equipment and a steal for the money IMO...

I think I get it after Chris.

Earl,
I think it makes the most sense to figure out the geographical distribution of the rest of you guys and send it out in a circle that puts the next person as close to the sender as possible. The box isn't exactly light so the shorter the shipping run is cheaper and we're less likely to have issues with the carriers. Ultimately, it has to come back to me in St.Louis so I can return it to Brad. So you guys after Chris who's in Louisville, Kentucky, need to get together and figure out an order that's practical. Just my take, but ultimately it's a lot cheaper not to ship it from one coast to another and back. :)

I was told I was next in line after Chris, but whatever...

I will test this out with the Tonedexter and report back when the "traveling BB" gets to me. Just thought that Piro might have tried it with his Tonedexter and could provide some advance information. Actually, I remember Piro saying something to the effect that the BB did such a great job with a piezo that it eliminated the need for the TD!

Yikes.
The way I have it down (with Rick having been added before everyone else just because he could pick it up)
is it going to ChrisF then Earl then Ben R then Clyde, then Michael then Eric. That is all I remember...
Please figure out here how you cats want to do it. I am happy to pay for Chris's shipping since I forced him to take it.
Thanks
Piro

Got it, since you set up the order far be it from me to change it. Chris should have it by Wednesday.

Based on everyone's positive reviews of this device (as well as the fact that I haven't seen any of them come up for sale in the TB classifieds), I just put in my order for one, so you can take me off the list. That should un-muddy the waters a little bit!

I use it in exactly this way. I didn't make new WaveMaps, as I was out on the road when I got it. It really changed everything for the better, even in front of the TD. It smooths out that quack situation even further. The mids are far more consistent and real. I think the non-linearities and inconsistencies of the piezo are ironed out so that the WM applied by the TD is more consistent though that that range.

I'm a fan. I've tried the BB without the TD and I like them in tandem best. YMMV. Also, I usually ran the Vari-Z at about 10-11 o'clock in 30k to 10MOhm mode (switch to the left).
