HA!!! I was gonna post that!
I definitely didn't start playing music cos of girls. I think I was about 8 when it all started, so yeah, I'd say I was pretty much not thinking about the ladies then.
BUT, I started playing BASS in high school, and I really only did that cos I wanted to rock and I was ALWAYS loving the low end.
But, I was also starting on offense and defense on our HS football team, and I'm pretty sure the Linebacker got more attention that the sloppy bass player.
These days I play in a really cool band that has a certain "edginess" to it. We have a few dudes from true hardcore roots, and we drop some VERY hard music 2 or 3 times a set, but not for too long, because if we do, the gents start rolling up front. So, then we switch it up, and put a little groove back in things, and the ladies push forward.
It's definitely calculated though. We don't stack up the hard songs specifically to keep the ladies up front. Sometimes this has its extra-curricular benefits, but as a band, when the ladies come up front, the guys loom just behind, and the front of the stage is PACKED.
If we play too hard, and dudes come up front and start smashing into each other, yeah, that one hardcore chick is in there getting pummeled, but the rest of them split and head for the bar, especially once the mosh pit opens for business.
SO, we try to maintain that "Stage Dive" balance, keeping the ladies and dudes ciculating a little, keeping people up front, so that we may, at any time, take a nice dive into the crowd. It's fun. Sometimes I like to do a front flip off the stage. The ladies LOVE that!!!
