Double Bass Save me!!!!!

How do you guys get around the problems that come with situations like these?
What little of this that I've done, I've found that standing 'windshield wiper' style helps out. By this I mean that both of your bass are aiming out front in a parallel type of fashion, allowing the two of you to bunch up pretty tight. Your neck will get tired after a while, though, from looking over your right shoulder.

I've never liked doing that to the extent that is needed to completely solve the problem. Playing like that I feel like looking to the side for so long throws the spine's alingment out of order, which translates to more tension, specifically in the right arm. Those of us who sit are especially prone to back problems from modifying out posture to look to the right.

Also, I never knew you played orchestral Ray. I always thought you where a purebred jazz cat.

I am the lead bass in the Queensland Youth Orchestra(Australia) and I am the youngest person there(& I am the only female). I am having a problem with getting the bass players to share stands it is ok in rehearsal but when we get to concerts there is a 3 bar pause of the bass when we turn the page, this has become a problem because in the recording you can hear when the basss drops out. I have tried bribing them and everything but nothing helps. I am jsut wondering does anyone have any ideas how to get boys to share stands it is making me crazy ..... :crying:

ciao bass players :D

It seems kind of juvenile that for a youth orchestra people can't share stands? Surely the conductor looks at you guys now and then? Does he not notice that you're lacking in stands?? Try photocopying a page that has a nasty turn on it and attach it to the already flipped side if you catch my drift. That way you can stagger the page turns, preferably during a loud section.
