Saw Sleep last night

Al's bass tone and playing was crushing. He really is an amazing player. Loud, too. I'm glad I had ear plugs. Otherwise I don't think I'd be able to hear anything for the next week.

For those interested in equipment, he was as always, playing a Rickenbacker (fireglo, with a jetglo or blue backup... I wonder what happened to that sparkly green one from back in the day?). For amplification he was using a Marshall fullstack and two SVTs with fridges.

The opener, Thrones, was very interesting. Joe Preston, who has played with Earth, the Melvins, High on Fire, Sunn O))) and a bunch of other bands, was just up on stage by himself with his bass, a huge array of effects, and a looper.

Saw them last week in Brooklyn. It was the loudest concert I'd been to, until Boris/Sunn O))) took that title the next night at the same venue (and before Sleep, Boris was the loudest). Total earth crushing bass 2 nights in a row. Both concerts were amazing.

I'd love to go to such a concert one of these days. Sleep is a great band, and seeing Boris or Sunn O))) live would be fantastic as well! Although I'd be deaf for about a week, but it'd certainly be worth it!
