Sawtooth and Ramp Up Waveforms?

FTP.....the beats in loungin' what do you use? ableton?

Yep, Im using Ableton Live 7 to make the beats- its pretty easy to use, and as the name would suggest, its great for live use (though I haven't actually used it 'live' yet). I just started programming my midi foot controller a few weeks ago, and I set up the beats in roughly 8 to 16 bar loops that I can switch around while playing my bass. Ive added some new parts and effects to the 'Loungin' beat since that recording- ie- a bit crusher on one of the kicks (there are two layered kicks) with the crushers frequency 'knob' set to an exp pedal, various delays etc that I can kick on and off.

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but on some of the tracks with simpler, more repetitive bass lines, Im going to loop my bass line in Ableton for certain parts and then get down with the knobs on my other controller and chop up the beat-- glitch it or dub it out, etc. Im slowly getting the hang of it all and having a lot of fun with it

How do you use the Freqbox? ie- roughly where do you set the frequency on the Freqbox for a sawtooth, for instance? I try to keep it as low as possible for the purest waves, and this is where it is most finicky. I also find it to struggle with my dry bass signal the most-- eq'ing out the highs pre-freqbox cleans it up though.

Any chance you could post a clip with the Freqbox? Im interested to see how you use it, and how it works with your gear :)

I usually have the Frequency set fairly low, but in most of the songs I use it I sweep it with an expression pedal (in fact that's the only way I can sweep it as the Frequency knob hasn't worked for a year :)). I never use the Envelope, and most of the time have FM maxed. The only thing that is ever before the Freqbox is my Compulator.
If I get the time I'll do some clips in the next day or two...

Ahh, the compulator. I bet that's whats doin' it right there. I haven't spent too much time with my compressor in front of the freqbox, but when I tried it there was a significant improvement in tracking (it also tracks dirty/compressed signals very well), but I prefer the tone I get with a high-cut/low-boosted signal. I seem to get more oscillator noise/higher pitched sound when compressing first, which makes sense I guess, since compression evens everything out..

For reference: On a saw, I generally keep the Frequency just under '2' and triangles almost at 0. I haven't ventured up the fretboard much with it yet and Im usually tied to a filter, so Ive been picking a frequency range and sticking with it for the most part. Ive been thinking about a midi/cv converter so that I can draw out specific lfo's to go with each section of the beat, so that it will automatically sweep the 'frequency' as needed for the given bass line, giving me more range and allowing me to jump up the neck with a squarewave for instance. This wouldn't leave much room for improvisation, but it seems like a good idea- to be honest this is still just brainstormin' and I haven't looked into the Kenton's or others yet, so Im not 100% that there is something out there that will let me 'draw' the automation.. but it seems like it could be a great idea. The MP201 is very limited in this department, at the moment at least.

Dude you gotta get camel phat and camel space....They will help you so much with tricking out your beats.

Hmm, is it like a multi effect of sorts or software? Ive noticed a 'Camel' something in the adverts here on the forums, and iirc it was an ugly multieffect for bass--- Im sure that isn't the one your specifically referring to, so I'll look it up, thanks for the suggestion
