SBL: When is a bass maker no longer boutique?

Try to think of it as the price you pay for living in an arguably open enough society where comments like yours saying: “mocking the Sacred should not be allowed” are also allowed.

Not to mention that one person's "sacred" is another person's "blasphemy". And vice versa.

'colourful language' is all cultural imperialism anyway. Mostly Anglo-Saxon words, which were deemed unacceptable by the Normans after the Norman conquest, which is why all the Latin/French-derived words are OK, but the gutteral Anglo words aren't.

Love them or hate them, these guys move the needle, otherwise we wouldn't be up to (checks notes) 8 pages of mostly off topic bickering over (gasp) swear words in a youtube video. Their style obviously isn't for everyone, but it's just as obviously really, really successful. To be honest, sometimes the schtick wears thin on me too, so you know what I do? I watch another video and get on with my day.

People in general sound burn more calories on things they enjoy vs. being salty about the things they don't.

I don't give two sh**s about their success or failure.

Not always. Being offended, say, when seeing racial injustice, is not selfish. It is a reaction based in empathy that hopefully leads to an action to stop the injustice. I really don't want to be around people who say we can just choose to not be offended. That's a character flaw, IMO.

Anyway, I wasn’t going to watching the video, but then someone said there was profanity, and like anyone who grew up in the Parental Advisory period the R rating tells it’s a good movie that I need to see, so I watched it, and was kinda disappointed over how little actual swearing there was.

I was gonna say, I'm still at work so I can't dedicate the time to listening to it really, but I've never noticed an SBL video that was particularly foul mouthed. Like, there's been a little cursing here and there. About one degree more cursing than my 78 year old grandmother, but nothing notable. I haven't noticed anything that was offensive to my sensibilities in their vocab as much as I've found how clickbaity the thumbnails and video titles have gotten to be completely off putting. Having watched his stuff going back to around the 12 years mark when I first picked up bass in college it's really lame to see.

I used to go to online media because I didn't have to sit through a seasons cliffhangers, plus ads, plus whatever bias came from a company bankrolling the production in order to consume info or entertainment. It seems the last 4 or 5 years has been the pendulum swinging the other way where I'd almost go back to cable TV packages so I wasn't getting the same 3 video adverts on youtube, plus ads on the page, plus pop-up ads, plus midroll ads that youtube will interrupt videos to show, plus ads if I pause the video and am viewing on certain devices, plus ads that are baked into the video by the uploader that was advertised to me using a thumbnail of a grown man making a goofy exasperated face with unnervingly wide eyes and a total absolutist statement as a title.

You miss my point, the fact that something offend you is a you reaction to that thing regardless of being for good or bad reason, so is self centered.

Yeah, I watched most of it, or rather listened to it while working in the background and I was surprised anyone even mentioned the cursing. It wasn't a crazy amount, or cursing for shock value, or to insult or attack anyone.

As for the content itself, it wasn't meant to be educational or instructional, just a couple of friends talking about what they like and dislike regarding boutique basses, so not sure why it's criticized so harshly.

Was it "must watch"? No, and I do find one of those guys' HYPER ENTHUSIASM a bit grating at times, but parts were entertaining. And it was nice to see and hear some of their basses. I am really GASSING for a Smith and a Wal, even though I've never played any.

SBL is great for where i am on my bass journey.
I follow the lessons and the players path. I'm not in a band (yet) so enjoy the chance to play 'new' songs with a backing band.

Not perfect, but i tried taking lessons here in my town and the choices, besides being expensive were MOSTLY guitar players who teach bass.

Want to learn slap? They have 2 courses of 6 (or so) lessons each. Not perfect but MUCH better than me trying by myself. To each there own of course, but SBL works for me for now

Yeah, around the same time I started watching SBL 12 years ago I started messin about on TB (have an older account I stopped using). I noticed after a while I wasn't seeking information as much because I'd been voraciously consuming as much as I could for a couple of years. Then just got bored with how often it seemed that the threads turned into the internet version of "Old man shakes fist at sky". More often than not it was one of a few tropes that were "ruining society/music/the music industry". Generally it'd be computers, rap, young people, young bands not demanding more money and just taking gigs, or generally lamenting that 4 piece rock bands were no longer the hip musicians of todays age. Took a break for a few years, glad to see nothings changed.

Whoops, I mean carrots, best bass for metal?, YMMV, thinning the herd, weight?, plays like butter, this is the best instrument I've ever owned and was kissed by my preferred deity but I'm also selling it, I won't leave the house for less than $100

Of course it is. I think any discussion around artistic expression has validity but an hour long discussion about what makes a tool "boutique" or not seems like a waste of someone's air. Like I said I mean no offense just wondering if I was missing someone about the differences.
