SBMM SUBs..yes, it's about to become even more confusing

Yeah, I'm going to put mine between either one set of knobs, or the knobs and jack - haven't made up my mind yet... I'm also leaning towards using sub-mini switches, with the barrel shaped nuts like I have on the back of my Mesa amp - so that the switches cannot be moved by accident...

I'll be installing the series/parallel switches in both these basses as soon as I get them - it'll really open up alot of different tonal options...

All rays and sterling pickups are wired parallel from the factory. From SUBs to BFR HH stingrays... Unless someone has gone in there previously and messed with it.

I had a Single H Ray 5, a Sub 5, and an SR5 HH. The SR5 H had a different voicing. It was subtle and it'd be hard to tell them apart easily, but it is there.

Not sure if all SUB5 are parallel, or only some.
4string SUBs seem to be series.

SR5s are parallel (well, switchable anyway). But depending on the year, they can be alnico or ceramic. Stingrays are alnico, and so are SUBs.
Perhaps that SR5H had a ceramic pickup? As far as I know they only reverted to alnico on SR5s recently, three years ago or so, I don't remember exactly.

that is incredibly true. EBMM products in general have dried up in my area completely ever since last year. i saw two different subs in two different places like mid 2011 but never acted on them. haven't seen any, nor any other EBMM/SBMM products for sale used since. some dealers seem to have stopped dealing EBMM entirely for some reason. and the ones i find new are never in colors i like...:hmm:

check out GC's used site - a national search for Music Man shows some pretty sweet deals on Rays and Sterlings....for a while there were several SUBs on there....not as many now...

or check price drop....killer deals regardless of brand (imho) of course I am up in Canada so maybe they seem a touch better...

actually a decent looking S.U.B. on there now for $379....

it is too bad they didnt resurrect the esthetics of the old SUB line. I think maybe a non diamond plate metal scratch plate and similar slab body with the line-x type finish would sell just fine. I would also love to see a passive version like they did with the old Subs.
I might pick up one of these just to wrench on.
I've always wanted to try other electronics in a stingray but am hesitant to mod MY stingrays.

You can do many nondestructive mods on that bass, and return it to original later if you wish.

I tempted by this, UK stores are stocking it at the moment so I may go and check one out over the weekend. I did have one of the old SUB's which I loved, although never felt like the sturdiest thing in the world, but wouldn't expect that.

I wonder how it would deal with being dropped into D with a hipshot tuner on a regular basis.

As usual though, UK has to pay way more than we should!
