On a slightly more serious note, that repair is a great save. 
Both necks are now fretted and ends beveled...
You can see the fret end beveling file on the right. Made from an off-cut of black limba from a previous project...
...cut at 30° and the pieces screwed together with a file in between. I drilled the screw holes before cutting the angle so they would already be aligned properly.
I made a paste of glue and wenge dust to fill the ends of the fret slots...
...after it dried, I filed and sanded smooth...
...not completely invisible, but close!
Necks are now ready for fret work and final sanding!

Ok, for those eagerly awaiting the method by which I will open the control cavity...

...and the edge pops up! There is a small scoop out of the inside of the cover where you can get a finger nail in to pry it open. Needs refinement for the next iteration, but it will do.

Bodies are sanded to 180 and cavities painted with shielding paint...
...another round (or two) of sanding/grain raising, then it will be time to start finishing! I will be spraying WB poly on the bodies.
The necks have the first couple coats already applied. Sanded to 320, one is finished with Wipe-On poly, one is oil. Few more coats to go, yet.
From here on out it will be sanding, wiping and spraying so there won't be much to show here. Planning to be ready to assemble within the next couple weeks, but weather will be a factor, so we will see.

Didn't get as much done over the holiday as I planned, but when does that ever actually happen?
I started spraying clear on one of the bodies...
...it's a little lumpy, but it will sand flat.
Here, I've already started level sanding the top...
...using a small MDF block and 320 grit paper.
For the roundy bits, I use a foam pad with peal-and-stick paper...
...I've had this for many years, since I used to do finish in a cabinet shop. When all the corners, roundy bits and tight spots are sanded, I used a DA for the large, flat areas.
This is the clear I'm using...
...with a Harbor Freight HVLP gun. One coat every hour; I did four coats then let it cure for 48 hours. Probably could sand after 24, but I had to work Saturday. As a small business owner, I can't really be closed on "Small Business Saturday".

...starting to get the coverage and the sheen I want.
The back is starting to look good.
Meanwhile, I decided to us Wipe-On Poly for Body #2 and the results are as expected...
...you can see the grain a more and it won't be quite as shiny as the other one, but it's going smoothly.
Side note: I neglected to seal the backside of the control cavity cover so when I sprayed "water-based" clear on the front of the cover, it turned into a potato chip! Guess I'll be making a new cover...
With any luck, I'll have #2 finished before the WBO starts, not sure how long #1 will take.
