Yep! I have two options but I have not decided which I am going with, yet.
Option 1 - Route a small scoop in the side of the control cavity so you can grab the edge of the cover, easy peasy
Option 2 - Add another hidden magnet in the middle of the cover so you can stick a tool (screwdriver, etc...) to the back and pull off the cover. This would make for a supper clean look, just not sure if it will work.

Option 2 would probably be fine if if's just for you and you know it's there and what it's for. As an end user I would never ever put that together as a means of lifting the cover.

Fair point! I was thinking of marking it by inlaying a circle of contrasting wood over the spot where the magnet sits, but I definitely see how that could be confusing.

I like the internal magnet idea.

I still like it, but can’t think of a way to make it obvious without ruining the effect.

I was thinking fingernail to pluck/pry it open? It depends on how tight the gap is and how strong the magnets are. Really like the idea and design, though, and hope you can find a way to keep it as clean and un-noticeable as possible.

A pull-ribbon would show. You could adhere a "mass" inside, and use momentum into an abrupt stop to pop it loose, but that means getting the "mass" just right, so it only pops when you want it to.

I got it! When you want to take it off, just put a piece of tape on it and lift!...

A dummy knob that looks like part of the controls, but it’s actually the end of a rod through the body. When you push it, it pops the cover off.

All good ideas! I did consider the pull-ribbon and the dummy knob is a rad idea!

I will probably go with something like this...

...a small divot where you can get a pick or fingernail in there to pop the cover off. It will show, but it will be minimal and unobtrusive, hopefully.

The dummy knob is probably a bad idea. I’d reach down to adjust the volume and hit the eject button by accident, lose the control cover, get a wire snagged on my belt buckle, and end up disemboweling the thing on stage.

I think you've already decided, but if it's going to have a top-mounted output jack then you could push a rod (e.g. screwdriver) through the jack to pop the back cover off.

Spent a few hours sanding this weekend...

...got the bodies up 120 grit...

...and ran out of 180 grit so had to stop there.

The necks are coming along...

...fretboard on the right is ready for polishing and fretting.

The fretted neck has a coat of oil, though there will likely be more sanding.

The neck/headstock transitions are very similar...

...but the one on the left is a little longer. I like the one on the right better.

You can always subtract wood to make them identical...

Just be careful about that bit where you keep cutting and cutting, and it's still to short!

I will probably leave them as they are. I agree that there is the possibility of messing it up if I try to reshape.

Few pictures of a repair to the neck pocket that I meant to post yesterday.

Way back in post #34 I posted this picture...

...showing a minor router mishap. I ignored it for a while 'cause I wasn't sure how I wanted to fix it.

So I chiseled the spot into a tapered channel and glued in a plug.

Then I got fancy ...

...and cut a slot and glued in a scrap of black veneer.

Meh. I guess it turned out ok. After sanding and finishing it should blend a little better, hopefully.
