SBO 24 Acoust O'Sonic #2 Single Cut

This is an non-bass build. Both the neck and body already exist, but I will modify them without mercy. The goal is to create a hollow body with new cap and some form of pick-up(s). I will make up most details as I go along.

I have a 24-3/4" scale, 12 string neck that was purchased from a $15 junk bin. I haven't decided if I will make it 6 string, 7 string, or something else.

I purchased a discount guitar body with a single cut shape and flat top.

I have lots of other scrap wood around and have included a few representative samples in the woodpile picture. The top may incorporate the piece circled in red.

I'm making the top for this out of some leftover pine that had been milled to make tops and bottoms for hollow wooden surfcraft. You can't see much, but the panel is in the clamps. I shill need to decide if I will inlay the branch slice.

I got the panel out of the clamps and sanded close to flat. Then I drew out the lines for hogging out the body and shaping the top panel.

I might change to a laminated birdseye maple panel.

Something like this, but hollow. The sides and back will be stained dark. The inlay will get a contrasting binding and be left natural.

I'll dry fit the inlay and sand everything to flat before hogging out the body.

I've hogged out the body and carved in the lip for the inlay. It still needs a lot of tidying.

I'm still playing with other ideas for the top - Cross of St. Andrew, perhaps... Maybe I should get some red and try St. George's Cross.

I forgot that certain colours of tints bleed with carpenter's glue. I'll have to try again with epoxy.

I tidied up the inside of the body and added bracing. There is also a mounting block for the Lace Aluma 90 pick-up. I haven't decided about sound hole(s) yet.

I put some work into the Cross of St. Andrew top. I like it. That doesn't mean that I won't come up with better.

I'd need to stain the cavity to match, though. I'd probably stain the rear cover plate to match.

I prepared for a piezo system, in addition to the Lace Aluma 90. The body will have a separate jack for each.

I stained the cavity navy blue and glued on the top with hide glue.

I cut the neck pockets for all three builds yesterday.

I just came back to this build. I had set it aside because I just didn't like the inconsistencies in the top. So "Off with its" head!". I took the top 3/8" off of the body using the table saw with a very high fence, and laminated a new top panel with birdseye maple as the show face.

I am aware the this will leave me contending with my arch-nemesis - binding, but I do have a plan.

Clamp shot! The top had been sanded to 80 grit and grain filled, then scraped. I forgot to take a picture of the bracing - just simple lengthwise parallel braces.

The rope binding is applied and waiting for flush trimming for both top and side, followed by round-over.

I have a couple of trips coming up, so this might not make the deadline. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Looks great already. You probably explained somewhere above but did you have to cut different angles on the binding blocks for the inside and outside corners or are they all the same?

First, profiled strips of walnut, roasted maple and poplar using bead and cove router bits like this:

Then I cut them all off on the same angle so they would sit with a tilt.

This may be what you answered but I meant the angle in between the individual blocks. They look like they could be different going around the inside corner but it could be the camera too.
