Depends on the model.

About a year back I played a used Schecter Scorpion bass in my local instrument shop. It was the most comfortable, warmest active bass I've ever played. Thought about buying it, but someone else snapped it up.

My friend has a Schecter Stiletto 5, neck through. I've played it a couple times, and it's very comfortable for a five string.

I have an '04 Diamond Series (4 string) that I love. It's got great tone and really nice action. Have had lots of compliments on it.

I've got a Model T - great p/j bass. I've played both a Diamond P and Diamond J, nice basses, good players. I've liked the Schecters that I've played.

I have a south korean made model t with basslines and it's fit and finish are on par with the 2 fender american deluxe p's i had. Sound is apples to oranges. Active pre vs. Passive.

I have a Riot-5 that I absolutely LOVE! The fit and finish on it are top notch, and I get great tones out of it. It has a nice fat bottom end, but not boomy, and a top end that has a nice sparkle to it, but isn't harsh. It plays like a dream, and the only downside is that it is a little heavy when playing for extended periods (I'm talking 2 hours or more...). I think they are a nice middle ground between a beginners bass and a pro quality mass produced bass. I've heard that the parts are made in Asia, and they are assembled in the good old US of A, so the quality is higher than other guitars made overseas.
