Schecter Diamond J Bass Opinions?

I am a big fan of the Schecter bases. I have a Diamond Series Radian 4 that I really like. I am interested in adding a jass bass to my line-up and the Schecter Diamond J bass looks great. Anyone have or played? Opinions appreciated. I am thinking of getting instead of the MIM Fender Jazz bass. Price is about the same. Thanks.

I am just a beginner hoping to get to the intermediate level so I think it's just what the doctor ordered, price-wise (my budget is $5 bills give or take) and every other wise.

Yeah, my Radian is a Korean built - really nice.

Madbassplaya, you think better than the MIM Fender jazz, I'm thinkin' so but I'm only a newbie.

This bass is night and day better than a MIM Fender. The construction is top notch and it has a really good sound stock. I've always upgraded the MIM Fender's that i've had. Always! The Schecter I loved the sound of stock. I really regret getting rid of them now that I think about it.

The only draw back is that resell is low. If you're planning on keeping it, its well worth it. Like I said this bass will compete with US Fenders. I had it and a G&L Jb-2 at the same time and I prefered the Korean made Schecter over the US G&L.

There are a couple on ebay right now for a little less than 500 and are new. Check those out.

Hope this helped.

Thanks madbassplaya. I am a lefty so my choices are limited. Found a retailer (same one I bought my Radian from) who offered me a good price on a lefty Diamond J.

I also have a lefty Sterling Ray34 (Musicman). I hope the Diamond J is a little lighter.

I have yet to see a J at GC but I have a P and its definitely better build than a fender. Mine holds nice low action and sounds great, and the neck is smooth with none of that fret sprout that plaques MIA and MIM fenders. I don't know if its been confirmed but I thought I read that there may be graphite rods in the necks. Factory grover tuners, tusq nut, nice fit and finish. the only thing i would change is to get rid of the dome knobs for some flat top ones, but im just being picky.

How thin is the neck compared to a Fender Jazz bass? I've been looking at a Schecter Diamond-J but I haven't had a chance to play one. I like a thin neck on a bass and I wonder if I'd be happy with this one. Much appreciated!

I'd just like to say, don't buy a Schecter because it's a schecter. I used to work in the big chain music store in Australia and schecters where our biggest seller. Honestly there are lot of other basses you can scoop up for a bargain. Judging by reports on this particular J though it sounds like a good buy. As far as the rest of the schecter line goes, you're better off getting an LTD (totally IMO) but every Schecter I've played feels like a cheap LTD.

I have a Diamond J that I run as my #2 / drop D bass for my Stone Temple Pilots tribute (Stone Temple Co-Pilots).

It was my first Schecter (Korean, I think) and it's really a pretty damn good bass. I've since bought and sold 3 Model T's and I liked the Diamond J better than any of them. I built a Model T clone from a body & neck I got from Dan Atkinson in order to really get the recent Robert DeLeo look correct. Side by side, I prefer my Model T clone, but I am kinda biased....:p

The one flaw that the Diamond J and Model T both have is that the tuners are sorta crummy. They're better on the Diamond J; not sure why, they look exactly the same. I have been thinking of replacing them with Hipshots (as I did on one of the Model T's I had) because that kind of stuff drives me completely bat$#!+ on-stage...

Thanks for the comments and picture. The white Diamond J I was looking at had a black pickguard. Your model looks very cool. I might just have to bite the bullet and buy one and see how the neck works for me. Even if it isn't exactly ideal for what I'm looking to get (quick, thin and slim neck), I'm sure it'll work. Worst case, I have another bass. I've had worse problems!

Well, I have a white Schecter Diamond J on the way. Can't wait to get it and run it through my Ampeg and see what those Monster Tone II pickups are all about. Should be a nice bass considering the price.

Last I saw on Amazon, they had two white Diamond J's in stock for $300 shipped.
