Wow, many responses, none from actual owners. Well, I've been playing a Hellraiser 5 for 3 years and love everything about this bass. First off, lets clarify a few things. Here are the facts: The Hellraiser 4 and 5 string basses are Neck Through (laminate), String Through, EMG hz pups with an 18 volt preamp with selectable high frequencies (yes, I did say 18 volt, two 9v batteries required.) Single volume pot complimented by a pickup blend pot, and separate bass/treble controls with center detente. The body and headstock are bound in abalone, the gothic fret inlays are black pearl. Mahogany body with Figured Maple top, Maple/Walnut laminate neck with rosewood fingerboard. Custom Schecter bridge. This is a tone BEAST! Mine weighs in at over 13 lbs! Sustain is amazing.
The C 4 and 5's do have some of the same qualities (mahogany body/figured maple top, same neck construction) however that's where the similarities stop. Biggest differences, on the C4 and 5's the neck is a bolt on, active eq is 9 volt with two volume pots, and separate bass/treble, S-Tek bridge. I have not been able to find out if the standard C4's had a string through body or not. I did find out however that there is a custom C4 and 5 available with the string through option, and with the same 18v preamp as the hellraiser. And there you have it. Now you know why the price difference. I have recommended the Hellraiser basses to many friends and several have purchased them, although they are becoming quite hard to come by.
