Schecter Hellraiser Extreme 4?

I'm looking for a new bass.
Need 24 frets, strong neck ,cut through in the mix , variable tone, nice build quality.
I play pop music, metal, hard rock and sometimes slap.
Schecter Hellraiser Extreme 4 seems like the answer.
How about the on-board preamp on Schecter Hellraiser Extreme 4? Do I need to upgrade?
And how about the slap tone?

I can get a new one under $500.
Should I buy a Schecter Hellraiser Extreme 4?

There are other choice: Warwick pro series, Spector Legend..etc.
How about them?

IME, Schecters are great basses. I own two Scgecters Omen 5, and considering they're not expensive models they play, feel and sound as if they were. I would say your model, which is higher in the scale, is a good bass, so go for it. Unless you try other basses and you like them better.

The HE-4 is versatile also, with coil-tapping and a 3-band eq. $500 new is a very good price; I thought they were still retailing for ~$900-1000. I've come to like mine more and more although at times I have found the mids to be a bit honky. I think it's a matter of matching it with the right amp/cab and how you eq of course. An amp that is clean and uncolored is best I think. Slap sounds good on it, though there's not much room between the bridge pickup and neck heel so it may not be ideal for that. I would also add that the lack of a contour makes it uncomfortable for resting your forearm as you play so, it may be better for someone who plays primarily with a pick. The neck is very slim and very smooth and playable.

Keep in mind some of the older ones are equipped with EMG-TWs, which are known for having a low output. Schecter later began putting TW-Xs in, which have a higher output.

It's a good bass especially at that price but, there's a lot out there to choose from so hopefully you can try before you buy or have a return period. In hindsight, I probably would have gone with something else.

I've never bought that many basses - mostly buy the type of bass for whatever studio session I'm hired to play - or type of music . I mostly played an ln old alembic 4 string that my hand is so used to I find playing anything else a chore -it's at alembic now and just bought my first bass without playing it first . The Schecter Hellraiser Extreme . I'm assuming the intonation in what it should be - and my left hand can get around. Not sure all the rest of it matters that much . Modern amps speakers and e.q. Give a wide range of tone so I'm just hoping the thing feels good. I do not know the outcome of my beloved alembic ( they have had it for a few months ) so here I go
