I think this can go here, but if not: move it

I came across this in something and was wondering what the arrow means. The arrow itself connects to nothing, but the other 2 wires do.



Oh, and I am aware it is a TRS jack

The arrow usually means power (usually positive voltage) when it's outlined. Ground will usually have a solid black arrow.

Usually with stereo jacks, the ring is connected to the positive terminal of a battery.

Doesn't have anything to do with power or ground.

That is a "normally closed" connection on the jack. If there is nothing plugged in, whatever signal is on the line with the arrow is connected to where the tip of the plug normally goes.

You will often see this on the effect return of an amp. The preamp connects to the middle wire and the bottom wire goes to the power amp; if a plug is inserted, the preamp is disconnected and whatever signal is on the plug is fed from the tip.

Interesting. It came from a scem for a passive stereo mixer, so I imagine that it just in there for no reason at all?
